All we need is another natural disaster or refinery fire that takes out a major crude oil plant, gasoline prices will skyrocket, and then everybody will want EVs again due to high gas prices. I think the demand is going to come in waves until things settle down over the next 5+ years. We are also in the "charging doldrums" waiting for NEVI stations to get built.

Ford has also been underestimating demand for new products such as the Mach-E, Bronco, and Maverick. When these vehicles come out, there are a bunch of people that want them all at once, but then the demand decreases as people get what they want. Ford has to switch to a decreasing demand model like consumer electronics rather than the traditional "bell curve".

You mean people dont dump the first year car and buy again 2 years later? (I'm looking at the mach-e, bronco, lightning etc) So as I see it demand wanes about year 3. When everyone has 'upgraded' 2 MY's and the same failures still happen and nothing new has been added, but rather more things taken away. I think we notice more of the issues as we're looking for it because it's new tech. I can only imagine how many people just live with sync4's issues in all the other ICE cars lately.

My First Edition is looking better and better - I think once I get BC1.3 and my electronic frunk release I’ll be all caught up, and I have the tailgate kick sensor that works half the time and the parking assistant I’ve never used!!

Ford just might increase demand for their EV's by advertising them more. When was the last time you saw an ad for a Mustang Mach-E? I have seen ads for F-150's which include a couple images of Lightnings, without mentioning their names nor mentioning the different power trains that are available. Have you seen any for Mustangs, much less the Mach-E? Am I watching the wrong channels?
Ford can not rely on word of the mouth when so many complain about waiting months and months to get the cars they ordered. Ford needs to state that cars are available at the dealers today (if in limited quantities).

Probably won't want to eat these words:

I think they're backtracking on these goals because they suck at getting ordered cars in people's hands and their dealers have poisoned the buying experience for many with ADM, etc. for the past 2 years.

Model e is a dumpster fire of a division, which is why it also had layoffs in June/July despite being considered the golden child of the organization.

He's not breaking any news, and there's nothing secretive about this. On Ford's Q2 earnings call (July 27th), Farley said "In line with that, we are now targeting to reach 600,000 annual production units of EVs by next year, and we maintain flexibility on where we reach, when we reach two million total EV global capacity because we are balancing growth, profitability, and returns."

Interesting take.

The layoffs were to get rid of those that can't adjust to the new way of working in Model e. Preannounced, Farley basically said they were going to get rid of the deadwood. Historically, they moved them into new jobs. Now, they're cutting them.

As to the run rate, as soon as they missed the 600,000 number for 2023, they knew they can't make the 2 million number as previously targeted.

I think the 200,000 reservations not converting at the rate they expected, plus the unplanned shutdowns of the lines, has impacted things quite a bit. Then, the price competition changing demand.
