It seems that LYTMCQ has been wiped from the site. I noticed some strange threads where individuals were clearly answering something, but there was no quoted text. Now I understand. This is the first time I have seen this kind of action on a forum, and personally I find it disturbing. LYTMCQ was argumentative to the extreme, but I never found him abusive. We have had plenty of those on the site, and I have used the ignore button many times, including for him. I can understand banning an individual for bad behavior, but wiping the history clean as if he never existed I find to be draconian.
I noticed he was gone too. I find it less disturbing that you do apparently though. Sometimes trolls need to learn and since there was little productive statements from them, I don't mind the deletion of them. If someone wants to be an internet asshole, let them do it somewhere else.

I really hope the ID.4 sells really well. Its success will boost Ford's success with the MME. I'm just not sure the all-wheel drive range (<250mi) on the ID4 will be sufficient for most Americans. That sort of limited range would make day trips like going skiing a real hassle.
Some of the success for any BEV, whether that be the MME or id.4, is going to depend upon just how widespread DCFC's are as well. Fewer DCFC stations also means greater difficulty in traversing longer segments. Pragmatically though, not many of us actually want to be tied to a DCFC all the time. Charge it up, go to work (maybe plug in there), go home. Repeat.

While I do not like the looks of the id.4, if there was a real-world 250-mile range, I'd be quite content with that due to my isolated location. Others won't. I can see people with a commute from the Central Valley bedroom communities in California into the San Francsico Bay Area, not being exactly thrilled with a 250 mile EPA range.

received a call back from the district sales manager for Volkswagen after the call and inquire I made into the ID4 yesterday.

There is no info from Volkswagon on the larger battery AWD. Not even estimates. He also said there is no info yet on the 35,000 price tag ID4 that will be built in Tennessee. The only thing he could say is from what he has heard the range will be less but not number is known.

For anyone buying A ID4 the info out now is for the models they are selling now. Hope you enjoy your ID4. More ev vehicles is a wonderful thing.

Fair enough. But I still find it extreme. Aside from being argumentative, what did he do? He's been on here arguing just about from the beginning, so what triggered this. I mean there are plenty of other examples of people getting obnoxious here.

I think it reached the point where since there was such lack of respect, for no other reason than to argue, there is no reason to be present. Getting rid of old posts v. just preventing new ones is not necessarily the most ideal situation, but it shows that negative behavior for no productive reason will not be tolerated. I appreciate that steps were taken to remove someone that was having a negative impact on the group as a whole. Their attitude was ruining this forum for others.

In most cases, a temporary ban for a cooling off period seems more appropriate than complete censorship. Those banned were certainly a bit stubborn beyond the point of logic on certain points / threads and not knowing when to let it drop it and agree to disagree (even though it's debating a fact instead of opinion). That said, most if not all did have productive comments in other threads.

It's hard to say if the forum admin didn't send them private messages about certain posts. Maybe they were given three strikes, and went down swinging.

Yep, that's still gonna be a real bugaboo for selling BEVs, when people find out real-world range (where they usually need it - on highways, and adjusted for 10-80% SOC) is more like half of the advertised number.

"You mean that 250 mile range really means a realistic 130 between charges on the road?!? ? ".

Oh yeah, for sure. It's a Venn diagram thing of range, charging speed, infrastructure, and price, right?

The RWD version of the ID4 looks like it hits the mark on everything but the AWD version may be a tougher sell due to its more limited range.

There's some overlap between the ID4 and MME's lower trim levels in terms of specs but man, after sitting in the MME Premium, I don't think the interiors are remotely comparable.

It's baffling to me why VW won't offer a heat pump version of the ID4 in the USA while the EU version has one.

Yup - that is the real challenge - and it wont go away until there fast charging infrastructure everywhere and that will be a while.

That’s an interesting question that I’d like to know the answer to. I’d also like to know why we don’t get the really nice Quickclear style Window defroster/deice. Both are better options imo.

Absolutely. I hope the ID.4 becomes VW's bestselling SUV/crossover. I hope Tesla continues to do well. It is fantastic that the Taycan was the best selling Porsche. It would be great if the BEV's from Volvo, Audi, Hyundai, etc all outsell their ICE models. And of course I want to see the Mach E outsell the Escape.

If all that happens, it can only mean better things for future generations.

I think the ID.4 has a chance to be truly "mainstream" given the pricing and the scale at which they intend to produce them, at least early on. We haven't really had a truly mainstream EV yet except for arguably the Leaf in some ways, which Nissan sold approximately one jlllion of over its life.

It depends on how you define "mainstream" - what's the level of market specialization you're attaching it to? "Mainstream vehicle," "mainstream crossover," and "mainstream EV" are arguably different things in 2020. The ID.4 has a chance to tackle two of those at least if they truly get it right, although the range of the unreleased Tennessee-built model and the state of the charging network will have a lot to do with that.

The Bolt sales have been higher than Leaf this year. Probably because their have been more incremental improvements to the Bolt than the Leaf over the last several years... That said, the Bolt has a long way to catch up in total sales. Anyways, the Tesla model 3 already passed the Leaf in total sales this year and is the truly "mainstream" option.
