"you have to wait for the charger to charge before you can charge".
exactly. It will work for low volume/rural areas, but it's not really practical anywhere there can be high volume. I love the idea of the solar powered station better - these guys saying "we'll only use green power to charge it" is just so much spin...

Solar is a really cool point of these stations. Realistically DCFC companies get most of their overhead costs from demand spike charges- essentially when utility companies penalize them heavily for the peak power the draw. On a grid you usually want nice steady energy production, and lots of spikes can cause brownouts. A lot of the cost of a DCFC station is just the CPO passing the demand spike charges on to the customer. So when power would ordinarily be $0.13/kWh, it’s instead $0.70 with a hearty chunk of that being demand charges. Batteries on site (I believe EA started doing this too) really helps reduce demand charges because it supplements the power spike demand (pull half the power from the grid and half from batteries)

Clipper Creek is well respected. They are UL listed and I think Intertek registered, too.
I’ve been using a 240v Clipper Creek with our Nissan Leaf for over two years. Work great.

I never said it was a big deal. I just pointed out what Ford says are the actual charging rates. There's obviously been a lot of misinformation going on; people deserve to have all of the facts. If you read all of my posts, you'll see I'm a big fan of the Mach-e. However, no car is perfect. Both the Y and the Mach-e have strengths and weaknesses. Each person will decide for themselves which strengths they prefer and which weaknesses they can live with. Facts are good, wishful thinking is not. It is a simple fact that the Y will charge faster than the Mach-e. For many people that won't matter compared to the Mach-e's strengths. Very rarely does one thing matter more than the sum of the whole.
a simple question. If a person were goi g to buy a Y why would they be on this forum? I understand stating the differences but frankly the differences are totally insignificant and if they are going to buy a Y then buy it and you are obviously in the wrong forum.

If you'll actually read my response, I stated that was very possible. I just don't get why you'd buy the Clipper Creek cable when the Ford wall mounted charger will do better yet for the same or possibly less money. (48 amps and 32 mph charging.) BTW, here's some more grade school math for you: if 32 amp charging = 22 mph, then 40 amp charging (50 amp circuit) = 27.5 mph.
The grade school math equals 43, 37, 31 and 25
I know you don't know what I am talking about.

Gosh, it's my lucky day! I've got my own free forum adviser to tell me what to buy and what forum to be on! LOL

Maybe an explanation would help. There's several different types on this or any other forum. There's those who want all the information they can get and will buy whatever turns out to best for them. There's another type called a "Fan Boy". All they want to hear is that the car they want is the best at everything, needs no improvement and they only want to hear that fans of other cars are idiots and should stick to their own kind. I'm the former, you're not.

Yep, I'll probably take delivery of a Y. And in a year or so when the Mach-e GT comes out I'll take a look at it. If it's better for me, I'll trade in the Y and get the GT. See how that works? Once you buy a car, you can trade it in on another car if you have the resources to do so. See, that's why there are more than a few Tesla owners on this forum. They might buy a Mach-e if it's better for them.

There are several things I like about the Mach-e over the Y. I like the looks better. I like the red a LOT better. I like a metal roof over a glass roof a LOT better. I'm intrigued about the large battery available in the GT. If you know anything at all about EVs, you know that a bigger battery should mean more current available. More current means the potential to be quicker. The potential certainly exists for a GT to do sub 3.0 0-60. If it does, I want one.

There are several things I like about the Y over the Ford. I love the customer service experience I've had with a 3. I do not miss dealers at all. I love the autopilot and see huge potential in it. I like the faster charging the Y will have. I've driven the S, and I prefer the center screen with no display in front of the steering wheel. (So nice at night not to have that distraction in front of you.)

You prefer the Mach-e period, you don't care about what the Y can do. That's great!! The Mach-e is almost certain to be a great car. It's always nice to have a car you love. I'll buy whichever one I like better and suits my needs better. And if that changes a year later, I'll trade in whatever I'm driving. And it will change. Great things are coming in the EV world.

There's a reason Ford targeted the Y. It's going to be a great car. You think Ford is going to target crap? Hell no. They're going to go after the best and do their damnedest to beat them. I hope they do. And then I hope Tesla beats them back. Competition is good and will make each car far better than they otherwise would be. The Mustang wouldn't be near the car it is without the Camaro, and vice versa.

Come on fellas, let's not get into tribalism before we've even test driven our cars. Echo chambers are part of the problem, not the solution. The same goes for attacking one another personally.

You're right, and I apologize to all. Sometimes I have too little tolerance; it is a personal failing of mine.

Not a half bad idea. Places like country stores could easily install this. Fed By 240v 200 amp service, you could service maybe a couple of dozen cars a day. Not great for cities or interstates, but you don't need it there, plenty of high power electric feed available. But in the country a capacity of charging 24 cars a day would fine in many areas. Also, as farm equipment goes electric, this would solve the problem of charging for farmers as well.

Bank of America recently announced that they will be installing EA at many of their banks. Great idea. Draw people in to charge and possibly do their banking as well. They also make extra money on the sales of the electricity I am sure. I can see other major companies, say Target and Walmart doing this in the near future.

Many Walmarts around here already have EA charging stations. Hopefully EA prices come down at some point. Right now they're so expensive that it's no cheaper than an ICE economy car. For most people not a big deal as you'll only use them on road trips. But for folks living in apartments those EA chargers may be their only way to charge. Some apartments are getting charging stations, but not a lot of them around here.

Your prescience is granted - both already do have charging stations, as do some sam's clubs

More and more shopping centers and malls are installing chargers. A big win will be for restaurants to install them.

Seems like it would have to charge prohibitive rates in order to recover costs when it's only going to have a small number of paying customers each day though. Especially if it uses batteries, which we know are very expensive.
