Fellow MachE' Drivers,

something quite strange happened to me couple minutes ago while leaving for work...

I backed out of my garage as I do every day and noticed that once I put it in reverse and hit the gas it didnt move....

I put it back to park and again to reverse and it felt like some / rear breaks are engaged and it wouldn't let me pull out of my garage - it suddenly worked and I slowly drove up my driveway... first noticing some whooping noise (the sound you would hear having a flat tire).

I stopped at the end of my driveway and checked each tire with my flashlight... all completely inflated, no other issues found (I also checked under the car not that I'm dragging something)

Once I pulled out of the driveway and got up to 30+mph It felt like the car be falling apart any moment - extremely loud, whooping noise (not a grinding sound), I gently applied my breaks and pulled over - again checking for any damage / trying to figure out the origin of the noise - NOTHING.

Kinda freaking out I was about to call the FORD Service Hotline - but then I realized that I have an important meeting coming up shortly @ work - pulled back out of the spot - got up to 30+mph again and gently and slowly applied the breaks to a full stop - the noise stopped and everything was fine for the remaining 20+ miles I had.

Has anyone else experienced that before?!

  • I didn't drive yesterday - I parked it around 7pm on Saturday night after some heavy rain.
  • I had the parking break on as I got told by Ford Sync Hotline that I have to apply it to receive Updates
  • I don't think the wet breaks / tires would allow the breaks to cake on that MUCH over one day ?! I move it constantly and the breaks are not completely new either (12k miles)
Should I contact my dealership? During all of this the Car never showed any warning lights / message

There's been several threads about similar things. Search for "Brake Pads" or "Pads TSB".

Maybe something like this?

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...rakes-brake-pad-material-stuck-to-rotor.8971/

I think the best practice after rain/wet conditions is to dry off the rotors just before parking. Drive about 30 mph, shift to Neutral and use the brake pedal to stop. Repeat a couple times.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad it's nothing to serious... I mean after I gently applied the breaks for the second time it was completely gone.

Wonder how it will be once we have snow ...

Don't wait to find out. Try to get it repaired under the TSB while you still can.

Just scheduled for next week! Do you know if these are mandatory 'repairs' dealers have to perform? (in other words - should I expect full coverage and no costs from my end) ?

Well, it's a TSB, not a recall, so it's not mandatory. But if the dealer agrees that your problem matches the description in the TSB, they should repair it under warranty. Some dealers have been sticklers about it, while others just do the repair without any hassle. Just stay firm and tell the dealer that your problem matches the exact description in the TSB.

I'd also recommend printing the TSB and bringing it with you.
