I'm trying to decide between a 2020 mache GT or a Tesla model y.

Pros for mache:
Auto Park
Lane assist
Is sexy car

Cons for mache:
Nearly half their cars produced have been recalled in the past 2 years.

Charging network is.... Questionable?

I rarely parallel park because I never learned and typically wherever a place has those spots is usually high traffic. (Meaning I can't practice without looking like an idiot) I would love an auto park just to get me started on the right angle even if I have to take over.

Tesla Auto Park is... Very bad. They included it but they really shouldn't have.

Ultimately I'm unsure how much I'll even use it in real world applications.

Any thoughts on whether you regret your purchase, charging issues, etc?

Auto parking features do not seem all that good on any car, from what I've seen on reviews, but I have never had a car with it to say for certain. That being said, if you are worried about parallel parking, don't get a Model Y. The lack of ultrasonic sensors makes it a lot less accurate in helping you park, which can be helpful in tight parking spots, and I don't think that Tesla has a 360 camera view, which is super helpful for parking.

As for recall, that's the HVBJB issue. If you're worried about the recall, I would recommend getting a 2023, rather than 2021. A new car means less worry about if all the updates are in place (less to catch up on), Bluecruise 1.3 if you want to pay for that feature, and theoretically, the newer HVBJB is more robust. If you really want the 2021, see if the HVBJB has been replaced or not, when it was replaced, and insist all the updates be applied before purchase. Get the VIN and ask if someone here can run it to confirm all updates are done, or give a list of what needs to be updated.

The auto park is ok, but really if you’re worried about parallel parking, get a Mach E with 360 cameras. Then watch a YouTube video on how to parallel park.

Charging network? I’ve never DC charged on the road. The main benefit for any BEV is charging at home. How often do you drive more than 100 miles away from home?

If you’re buying new, the model Y price is hard to ignore right now.

Used…… go test drive them both and decide which you like better.

Recall? Every car I’ve ever owned has had them, so it’s hard to judge a car based on that.

My personal opinion is that you test drive both cars. Then, purchase based on which you prefer.
In relation to parallel parking, I honestly suggest merely learning how to do it. Even if that means paying an instructor to show you just that...

Honestly, in the UK, if you can't parallel park, there is simply no way you're getting a driving license.
When I moved to the US, they had me drive for 10 minutes in a CAR PARK, to get my driving license. I asked twice, is this it, do we not go on the road, into real traffic? ?

It does beg the question though-

How are you supposed to legally learn how to drive without a license?

I don’t think I want a bunch of unlicensed drivers out on the road into “real traffic” for their tests. ?

I have auto park on my 22 but I don’t trust it enough to use it consistently.

It has trouble identifying open parking spaces on the first try and requires quite a bit of space in front and behind so you can slowly roll back and forth past the spot so the space can be detected. It also flies into the spot so fast that I worry it will scrape against the car in front or bump the car behind me.

Both of these issues are resolved by properly learning how to parallel park. An added plus is you’ll be able to park into a spot where someone is double parked behind it, especially useful in a metropolitan area.
