You will see a big difference in the summer. I took my CR1 from Phoenix (1400ft) to Grand Canyon (went to almost 7000 feet along the way) at 75mph. I got 3.0 mile/kwh in July, running the AC really hard (100F+ temps). Mine is a RWD. On flat roads in the summer I get 3.4mile/kwh at 70-75mph.

How did you drive 174 miles in 34F and not lose anything to external temperature? And only 1% on accessories. Highly suspect.
I didn't listen to the radio? Not sure about the relationship between external temp and internal heat use.

I'm just south of Sacramento, in a CR1. I got 312-320 a handful of times over the summer. You'll never see that in the winter. I agree, a break, maybe in Auburn, would be a good idea. You said you don't like to take breaks, this might be a time to give them another shot. :)

The GOM will become accurate over time, but not always helpful. For me, I usually take short surface street trips, so my milage is really high. That's what the GOM is basing its estimate on. When I drive to Oakland to see the daughters, that's a different drive type and the GOM based on surface street driving doesn't prepare me. It does adapt as the trip progresses.

The daughters and luggage won't help range, but shouldn't kill it.
Indeed, lesson learned on being willing to stop. I won't drive past Auburn unless I have 50% left.

12 - 18 miles if no elevation change would be my guess . You can always just take the actual energy used and assume whatever efficiency you want. And the 340 also has mixed driving speeds, all highway speeds will drop it some. Looks like this trip will be on the edge for you when conditions aren’t good. The advice to monitor and pick up a quick charge on the way when needed is good.
Lesson learned, point taken...

1. Install the GT Power Meter on your CR1 IPC via ForScan. It helps for dynamic visual planning on-the-fly.

2. For what it's worth, I've had my Premium AWD EX at 1 mile many, many times on the battery (range) meter. I'm still alive, somehow. ?

3. Elevation tracking is key for EVs, IMHO. ESPECIALLY in mountains like the central Sierras, the Wyoming Bighorns and the mid-Atlantic Apallachians. The Ford OEM NAV is better at this than 3d party apps.

We drove the San Fran - Sacramento - Truckee - Points East - eventually Virginia Route this Summer. Awesome central USA East - West route, in many ways.
I'm intrigued by the GT POwer Meter. Can you direct me where to learn more about it? And how complicated is it to install? And cost? Thanks so much!

13 kWh just to lift a Mach-e to 7000 feet, at 100% efficiency.
Interesting. You mean it takes an extra 13kWh to drive up 7000' regardless of the temp? Where did you get that #?

It is a built-in information function on our IPCs (the "dashboard" screen behind the steering wheel). It is visible on the GT trim and it can be activated to be visible on other, non-GT trims via ForScan.

It shows the driver whether A). your car is using or not using motive power, even when moving very slowly, and B). whether the car is drawing down (consuming) motive electric power with a blue lightning bolt and a blue bar that changes in size relative to power draw OR a green lightning bolt and a green bar that changes in size relative to motive power regeneration, such as descending Pike's Peak in Colorado. If the car is moving at all, the Power Meter will show and will be either blue or green, not both. For mountain driving, I find it useful to monitor the dynamically changing length of the horizontal consumption blue bar.

There are threads here specific to how to turn this on, down in the DIY / HOW TO section.

I would not charge up to 100% while you are at your cabin. On your drive down there will be nowhere for the power to go into your battery while it is regening.
Never thought of that. What are the ramifications of having nowhere for the regen power to go (damage to battery)? Would you suggest 90% on my return drives (assuming, with the long descent, that I will easily make it back to Mill Valley)?

I don't think it would hurt anything but you are definitely missing out on getting some free power. Yes, I would probably think 90% or so for the drive back. Also, if it's cold up there do a precondition while plugged in so the battery heats up and is ready to accept that power

Already scheduled! I have a garage too, so car temp stays pretty high.

I routinely make the same drive except I go a bit farther, to Tahoe City (188 miles) I have an AWD Premium with ER battery. In the summer I can make it without stopping if I charge to 90%, set the drive mode to Whisper, and limit my speed to 70MPH until I get to Auburn where I lower it to 65. In the winter I really need to stop for a quick charge in Auburn (15 min). I can make it all the way home without stopping if I leave with a 90% charge even when it is very cold. Even in the summer, we often stop in Auburn anyway for a break.

Really helpful info from someone who's done almost the exact drive (just a bit longer). Do you start with 90% during the winter too? Why don't you fill up to 100%? Where in Auburn do you charge up? How much charge do you take on? And could you remind me what I need to do with FordPass to set up my credit card, etc. for automatic payment with public chargers? Thanks!
