First, this has been an amazing forum for information, conversation and sharing ideas regarding the Mach-E. I have enjoyed my time on this forum for the past 3 years - thank you!

I am selling my 2021 CR1 to Carvana today. After receiving another notice of recall (HVBJB), this one broke me. I am not comfortable with the battery being removed, unsealed and then reassembled. Having the windshield and panorama glass roof removed for resealing was stressful enough.

I have enjoyed the car the last 3 years and hope that the new owner enjoys it just as much, if not more.

All my best!

Totally understandable, the whole idea of after the vehicle being built having the battery dropped out of it in not completely controlled conditions can be daunting. It’s very clear that the HVJB was never designed to be replaced because of how difficult it is to get to it.

My battery was dropped out once, not due to a battery or HVJB issue, and was reinstalled with no problems. I also had a Bolt, which ended up with the battery being replaced. Would you sell your ICE if the transmission had to be dropped? I had a few trucks where I had to have transmissions rebuilt.

I wonder the same.

As far as required mechanic skill, replacing the HVBJB is a simple task when compared to rebuilding an engine or transmission.

The HVBJB work is really a very benign repair in the scope of things.

It's technologically simple, and not difficult to get right....which is evident considering a good number if not the majority of us early adopters have had ours replaced already without issue.

But, if it's worth more to you to take the L on the resale, best of luck to ya!

Not judging one way or the other but work that takes less than 8 hours to complete is not that complex in my mind. It will certainly be much smoother to schedule and replace under recall rather than experience it as either an SVS or SSN.

Speaking from experience (I think I hold the record at 5 HVBJB replacements), the repair itself is not that complicated and I never ran into a problem from having the battery taken apart and put back together. When the repair is done, the tech has to pressure test the battery to make sure it is sealed properly before it is put back in the car.

The hard part is getting the dealer to get the car into the shop and order the parts the correct way. Once the recall comes out, I am sure the order process will be a lot easier. The recall will also speed up the repair because as the tech has several replacements done, they will get a lot faster on the repair. Again, the hardest part will be getting the car into the shop in the first place for the repair.

Probably just a reason to convince oneself to upgrade. OP, What is your planned next car? Anything interesting?

Sayanara! This is the BEST car I have ever owned in 50 years. I love everything about it after 18 months and 26,000 miles! I haven't had a single problem with it! 2022 Premium, Extended Range, RWD.

OP wouldn't it bring more money selling it to Carvana after the recall is completed? I'm not sure Carvana can sell a car with an open safety recall.

I do respect your decision but as I have owned two different MMEs that have had their HVBJB replaced it's not a problem. But everyone has their limit

Also, everything on the car was designed to be serviced

One other thought is the MME just got the highest CR reliability rating of all EV SUVs so if you buy another EV it will be less reliable and more likely to need servicing than the one you are trading.

I'm curious: How much does this battery weigh?

I suspect the weight is one of the nightmares of this repair.

Best of luck to you, OP. If you've had enough, you've had enough. I get it.
I get it to, I have been in a group of classmates that has replaced a battery on a Chevy Bolt. And yes is it fairly easy. But you have to have 1000's of dollars in equipment to do it correctly! The Mach-E requires the side lower panels to be remove and special brackets are required to lift the car so the battery can clear the lift and be lowered. A smoke test is required after the lid is resealed to check for a sealed battery housing and special equipment and a ford VCM3 to run a program to put coolant back into the battery pack. Do you really think there are many dealerships equipped to handle this job. The answer is well maybe but I have my reservations about Ford dealers and their skills to work on a High Voltage device. I passed on it too and sold my Mach-E. I totally understand his dilemma and agree with his decision.
