Next year we should have 10 DCFC chargers in Fairbanks for the 30 registered EV’s! Obviously there should be more by then but it does astound me that the states with the most need are behind the power curve!

Apparently my thread sharing the same article was deleted due to politics. From the article…

Congress at the urging of the Biden administration agreed in 2021 to spend $7.5 billion to build tens of thousands of electric vehicle chargers across the country, aiming to appease anxious drivers while tackling climate change.

Two years later, the program has yet to install a single charger.

States and the charger industry blame the delays mostly on the labyrinth of new contracting and performance requirements they have to navigate to receive federal funds. While federal officials have authorized more than $2 billion of the funds to be sent to states, fewer than half of states have even started to take bids from contractors to build the chargers — let alone begin construction.

The problem is some states (cough, FL) are actively blocking NEVI. The bidding process hasn't even started because the bid form has not been finalized according to my sources and there's no intention to finalize it. From what I gather... the state is waiting for a "next administration" to kill off NEVI. Much of what I am saying is speculation but the article shows that Florida hasn't even begun the bid accepting process and this state is FULL of EVs. I swear one out of twenty cars here is an EV. Telsas are everywhere.

The first two stations in Hawaii, one near downtown Honolulu on Oahu and the other in central Maui (Kahului), are officially on schedule to open before year’s end. I honestly expect them to be a bit late, probably January or February, 2024. Both broke ground a few months ago. They’ll be operated and maintained by a local statewide company. Units for these stations are from Tritium.

Hawaii Island is supposedly getting its 5 DCFC stations and 1 level 2 bank (via an exemption due to infrastructure restrictions) by the end of 2024. The state has yet to secure any sites to host those stations except for the L2 bank in the middle of the island.

The first funded one is a GM/EVGO/Flying J location in London Ohio. But that partnership already has 17 open sites without Nevi funding.

Nevada is a mess. I was trying to decide where to post this. I'll just piggyback here.

41,441 EV sales from 2011 to August 2023.

1,895 public chargers at 562 locations for the entire state.

They really need far better DCFC on 95 between Vegas and Reno. We either have to drive the ICE, or detour all the way down to Barstow and use 395, adding hours.

And Superchargers will be no help there next year. They're all V2s.

https://www.fox6now.com/news/wisconsin-at-risk-of-losing-78m-for-ev-chargers.amp

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said the state may be at risk of losing more than $78 million slated to build a network of high speed electric vehicle charging stations if lawmakers don't update an old law on the books.

The money, awarded as part of the federal bipartisan infrastructure law, is supposed to be used to put in dozens of high speed chargers across the state. However, current state law prohibits the sale of electricity by the kilowatt-hour by anyone other than a public utility.

It's a law that could put all the federal money at risk.

…

More importantly, for the state to receive the federal money, the chargers must bill by the kilowatts used, not the time it takes to recharge.

"Right now we’re one of only two states that has not solved this problem yet," Thompson said. "Ourselves and Nebraska. We need to solve this."

It’s been 2 years LOL. Two years, and not a single station.

The speed of government. Except when they want to impose mandates on us and manipulate the market, of course.

Been saying all along that this EV transition will take much longer that some expect/wanted. And will only be partial, not absolute.

Not saying you're wrong, but I was on a call with in August of this year with FL DOT's EV lead, stakeholders including charge point operators, and FL DOT presented their plan that they submitted to the Feds. It was very well done, but the FL DOT EV lead kind of hinted that it'll take sometime before they can get started with the bidding process. If you know anything about construction projects lead by the state of FL, then you know it takes a long time for projects to start. I've lived here my whole life and that's always been the case.
