Ford says no Bluecruise 1.2 or 1.3 for my Job 1

Before subscribing at "special one-time discounted rate on a BlueCruise Connected Service plan - three (3) more years of service for just $600" I called Ford to ask if my 2021 Premium would ever upgrade to 1.2 or 1.3 (or if it is an empty promise for my car, like a frunk button). Ford said NO.

So, unless someone in this forum - which has proven much more helpful than Ford - tells me otherwise, I'm unlikely to send them $$ and more likely to get Comma.ai / OpenPilot (discussed in other threads).

The person that you talked to was clueless. Not one bit surprised by that, unfortunately.

To be fair, no one but 2023 people have it yet.

Ford (Darren Palmer) has promised it coming OTA to the rest of us and the updates have already started (all the 5. And 6. Updates).

Who exactly at Ford said it’s not happening?

It will upgrade to 1.3. No one will be upgraded to 1.2, that's being skipped.

I called the number listed on the offer and they transferred me to connected services. That person said I need new hardware if I wanted it. I didn't ask for names.

Call and talk to someone else. They’re just reading off a note card.

Hardware would be required if you didn’t have the 360 cameras and Bluecruise already.

Thank you - and by extension everyone at this forum who provides useful information (and some who just provide funny comments).

I have now called again and was told by "Mary" in connected services that I will get the upgrade without any new hardware. She couldn't tell me when, so she sent me to the OTA department, which she said would have a date. They did not have a date, but said to call connected services.

Emma in the connected services department said it should have been updated already. She told me to call the dealer.

Dealer says $230 to update.

Final call: Ryan, in In Vehicle Technology said the only way to confirm that my car can be upgraded is to take it to the dealer and plug it in.

P.S. If it weren't for the empty frunk button promises, I'd be more confident in what I've seen posted here about the promised updates.

This was also told to an ICE truck owner who called asking the same questions for the same reasons. I don't believe this to be true. I had BC 1.2 on my job 1 truck for a little while until an update changed something that caused it to stop working. For sure job 1 vehicles have the hardware for it.

Jon, do you have BlueCruise 1.0 right now or not?

Still going to be a low level person who does not know. Ford is setting themselves up for a world of hurt if they dont ship it out as their own public statements have said everyone include Job 1 people are getting BC 1.3

The phone tree people you talk to at those level only know can read what is out now. They have no access to what is coming or when. They read Job1 cars only have BC 1.0 right now. The docs to not say what is coming even if it was coming out the next day in EA. Hell even if it is in EA t hey would not say anything.Until the day it is on your car that will be the line repeated.

Look, if you haven't already figured it out, calling Ford is just a complete waste of your time. They want to be helpful, they try to be helpful, but they just don't have the training or knowledge.

You're better off asking ChatGPT - as least you'll get a made up answer without the time on hold.
