Seeing as I have 20k kms on my 21 I guess I should look at my rear brakes. I only use them for emergency braking or to clean the rotors. I know I have to replace the brake fluid in February(3 years).
I touch my brake pedal about once per week. At that rate, the brakes are going to last longer than other parts on the car.

Wow, 15K miles and needs brakes is rather an eye opener.

I drive in engage mode and use the brakes alot in urban driving.

Depends why they're needed. If it's due to rust or pitting caused by lack of use, it's not surprising at all.
Our Fusion Energi rear brakes rusted out, a known issue with it. I regularly clean off both my EV brakes, by shifting from D to N, braking, back to D, accelerate to speed, repeat.

I started doing that after getting the rotors replaced as part of the TSB. But before that, they were grooved and rusty. It's not the miles that will get you with EVs.

With normal driving, about how many miles will the brake pads last on an MME?

My wife's 5 year old PHEV has never had brakes done since purchase - 60,000 miles and not once has the brake pads been replaced.

That's amazing due to regen braking built in....

I think you answered your own question. Lots. Varies by driver of course. Most people can have an EV for many years and not replace them.

Depends where you live. In Vermont, if you drive an EV normally and never clean the brakes, it likely won't pass state inspection after 1 to 2 years. My wife's 2021 RAV4 Prime didn't pass inspection in 2023 due to pitting on the rear rotors.

If you live someplace that doesn't use salt, the pads and rotors will likely last a very long time.

Because most states don't have inspections, the brakes rust and the clueless drivers don't notice, and then they're hosed.

So living in warm, dry, sunny Southern California, without salt/ice/freeze - I can expect long brake life on the MME like my wife's PHEV ?

Theoretically, yes. The only difference is a much heavier vehicle. But, the pads and rotors should be sized to that.

True; however, OP did note, in post #10, that the pads were down to 1.5 mm. That's worn out, for sure, if the service dept. Isn't just pulling a "fast one"!

unfortunately i know little about cars so they could just be screwing me, but i also live in nyc so brakes are more used than the accelerator :D
I had the same problem and reported it on the forum a few months back. I had 9700 miles in 2 years and all pads needed to be replaced and all 4 rotors warped. None of this was covered. As best as I can tell, I drove the car for those two years in 2 pedal mode. My dealer in Miami has blown me off and I've written to Ford in Michigan and they haven't bothered to answer me either. Poor design and very poor customer service. Now I drive only in one pedal mode.
