Are you saying they didn’t finish the updates ?
They told me 2 wouldn’t apply and they seeked advice. But they said today they successfully did it this morning and I got the car back this afternoon ..
If you got the car back already, then they did not perform all updates. Your car is on a very old version of Sync from 2021. Your OTA history shows update 1.7.1 being sent to your car countless times throughout the course of this year and it failed to install every time. They did update some modules, but the APIM was an important one to get you on track to get caught up with the other updates it needs via the OTA process. Like Mike pointed out, they tried to do it but the USB drive they were using was too small and was not able to fit all the files needed to perform the update.

I would not say it is unbelievable. It happens all the time. I know you may be new to these issues, but at least they tried to update it which is better than what most dealers do.

It’s unbelievable because they told me yesterday they couldn’t get it working and I told them to keep it until they figured it out

they rang me today and said they got it working - which they did not.

they knowingly lied about it so they didn’t have todeal with it. Which is much different to them making a mistake or similar

it would have been better for them if they stuck to - “we can’t get it to work”

so now I’m pissed for an entirely different reason

I understand your frustration, but keep in mind that Ford does not pay them to update your modules so that is pro-bono work the dealer did for you. They have to pay the tech for his/her time and cannot bill Ford for the labor hours.

With that said: I agree that honesty would have been the better route to take.

That update was part of the recall though ?

how is that not part of the dealers job and billable?

perhaps if @Mike G can confirm those logs are from today (3rd jan) before I contact Ford .. so annoying
Thank you both for the info tho

It is from today. The recalls you have open on your VIN have nothing to do with the APIM update they were not able to do. They can bill Ford for the other module updates, but not for the APIM.

  • 22S41 BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE UPDATE
  • 23P08 DOOR CONTROL MODULE UPDATE
  • 23S56 HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY JUNCTION BOX HVBJB REPLACEMENT AND POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE PCM, BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE BECM, AND SECONDARY ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC CONTROL MODULE C SOBDMC SOFTWARE UPDATE

I have 5 listed field service actions for this recall. I imagine one of them is related the the sync issue

22B08 - ECU not updateable
22S41 - main hv contractor welding
22P25 - thatcham security software
23P08 - door control module
23S56 - battery contractor failure

PTS only shows the three I mentioned. The MME is not my forte, so I will digress to Mike as far as that goes.

That's exactly what I'm saying. You still have 11 updates available. The list I sent earlier hasn't changed.

If the car went in to the shop with a customer concern that it was not receiving updates then the APIM could in fact get updated under warranty as part of the overall diagnostic steps necessary to address the fault.

@Bobpies I was talking to Mike offline about your case and he mentioned TSB 22-2404 which would help get your APIM issue addressed. I am familiar with the TSB from similar issues that job 1 F150's went through, but again, the MME is not my area of expertise and it never occurred to me that this would also work for your case. With the screenshot of your OTA history and this TSB, you do have some solid recourse to ask your dealer to update your APIM and they too can get paid for the work associated with doing so.

Please note that all this TSB will only serve to get your APIM out of the state it is in so you can start getting OTA's. This will not be enough to get your dealer to fully update your vehicle, but it is a heck of a good start.

Not sure what tsb 22 2402 is but I will pass that info on , If you can describe what that is

I got a call from them today, they apologised and then told me that they heard back from Ford and the issue was that they need some special cable for their usb device for it to work - which they’ve now ordered.

I told them about the usb size but they said it’s not just a usb key they are sticking in - it’s a device of some sort.

anyway it’s back in next week - and they’re giving me an orange MME GT to drive around in whilst it’s In.

I attached the TSB to my post. You didn't look at the document? It outlines the procedure needed to update an APIM that will not update via traditional means. The TSB outlines the special USB/ethernet cables needed to force-feed the update to the APIM. I don't necessarily agree with the excuse they gave you or maybe something got lost in translation, but that TSB is a huge PITA to do. I would try the USB method first and go the TSB route should the USB method fail, but I digress. As long as they're going to fix your car, let them do their thing. Don't be surprised if they end up ordering a new APIM and asking you to come back when it arrives.

Dude they just need a bigger USB flash drive. Go buy one for them if they’re that dumb!

You do not want this dealer to do module repair, they’re too incompetent and will brick your APIM.

Apologies I didn’t spot the attached document -

Yes so that is the cable they were talking about so it looks like that is the route they are going down

I did tell them about the USB size but ill send it on again and see if it makes any difference.

perhaps the usb is adequate and it’s failing anyway?
Either way I’ll be stuck with the GT until they resolve it so I guess not the end of the world.
