My arc welder cables move all the time, 40 years old and still working fine. The grizzle cable is a whole lot heavier than those of the welder or my well pump. Ford's software fix for burning and melting of the charging port has lowered my charging speed so I should be good for awhile.

I have a 100 amp service and it was nice when it could charge when we were sleeping but that is no long the case as it derates to 4 KW at times. Majority of L2 charging problems with this car has nothing to do with the charger.

BC hydro had a rebate provided it was a smart charger.

Went with Emporia, and also using the Emporia energy monitor to throttle the EV CHARGER when the house's panel load gets close to 60%

It also supports charging the EV with solar only if you have a solar setup.

Just the Emporia charger allows schedules , $usage, and more.

Even if you went with just the EV charger to start, its nice to have options vs a dumb charger.
In my market they are close in price.

I have a "cheap chinese" charger that I have used nonstop for 3 years now on my BMW and the Mach e. Zero issues, always works, weather doesn't matter, and it's tiny and never heats up. If you have power fluctuations, this will certainly cause your charger to die an early death. Maybe get a power conditioner installed.

We get that with a dumb grizzle charger here. Just schedule the car to charge off peak. I have no need to pile on tech. Tech is used only to help not bury me. I thought I bought a car that does all that and the redundancy was just a nuisance. The car can be programed to work with the suppliers. However, what I have found is the car is not the best at charging and they concentrate on it driving itself.

I've had the Grizzl-E Classic - not a "smart charger" - for three years and zero issues with it. There have been rare occasions when a grid outage caused the charger to fault - indicated by a flashing red light - but this is easily resolved by resetting the panel breaker it's hosted on. Apart from that, it was easy to install, works reliably and would buy it again.

The Grizzl-E is connected to a 50-amp breaker within a 200-amp panel. Scheduling when to charge is easy to setup using the Mach-E's screen. Mine is programmed to coincide with our off-peak rates and to stop at 90%. Never had a problem with it or the Mach-E's settings.

No issues here. 2 chargers that have been in use 2+ years. They work great. I did install them indoors and leave the cords outside. Keeps the enclosures dry.

Are Fizzle charges trash now?

I had my Classic completely die after only a few months and the TWO replacements they have sent give the red ring of death on the Mach E.
I had the same red ring of death. Turns out it was the car, not the charger. My friend brought his EV over and it worked fine. Ford replaced the charging port and it was good after that. Now they've issued a recall for the original charging port, which can be compromised by the amount of electricity running through it. Did you get this recall?

I have the Classic version; it was installed in my garage and has been in-use for nearly one year at this point. I've had no issues. *knocking on wood*

How is that possibly even a thing? There is no "installation". It hangs on the wall and plugs in. About as "installation" as a kitchen oven. (Actually, the oven is more difficult.)
Installation means: 1) is it a 50 amp breaker, 2) is the plug connected to the breaker with #6 wire or at least #8 wire. Are all connection tight, 3) does your breaker have GFCI - if yes replace the breaker. You cannot have 2 GFCI on the same circuit. The Grizzl e has an internal GFCI.

I have a Smart Grizzl-e Level 2 - set to 40A and have had mine for a little over one year now - I did get everything connected to the house wifi - 2.4 GHz and app can see it - however, since day one sometimes it would stop charging or not charge to include with only having the vehicle in control of schedule for charging and turned the app off for scheduling so that it would not conflict with the Ford App. Then once and a while would get faults - 8 red flashing and would have to reset with the breaker.
I then blocked the charger on my WiFi - and made it "dumb".....now it works all the time for the past 4 months and no faults and every time it has charged the vehicle on the set schedule in the Ford App and stops at the set point. Works great when it is in the "Dumb" mode..... Yep, wasted extra $$$ for the smart function - but I do not want to go through United Charges Tech Support and probably need to ship back. It functions just fine in the dumb mode and very well built. I did see the posts on problems and made sure to torque the terminals prior to using.

10 months with my classic. 200 amp service, 50 amp breaker, #6 wire, hardwired, dip switches set to 40 amp. No issues. Electrician would not hard wire into a gfci because he knew the evse has an internal one and he said he would be back with a few months because it keeps failing, can’t have two gfci’s at same time.
