I've not seen any increase in charging location in the one year I have owned my Mach e.
Just last month I took a trip that required charging twice each way. found a charger that took 4 hours to get to 80 percent and then one at a Ford dealership that allowed me to charge for free in 90 minutes.
Went to 80% charge both times. Gotta make that trip again soon and see no new chargers or plans for any on IH10
I bought a converter for a Tesla charger because I pass about 3 each way !

Tesla converters only work on L2 chargers

I'd hope there are options along your way that you are not aware of because both of these chargers seem really slow... and the Tesla tap is not going to help in this regard. You really don't want to look for L2 chargers on a road trip.

If you haven't already done this... look on plugshare (website or app)

filter on CCS and 50KW+ (un check all others, Tesla Chademo, L2 etc.)

hopefully a lot more options will appear on or near your route.

As for where are the chargers.... yeah, the rollout is imperceptibly slow in most places.

Do not expect to see many of those Federally funded DCFChargers this year. Your state DOT will need to create an entirely different bureaucratic process contracting for the new chargers. Their usual process is oriented to projects within the road right of way were those involved have are familiar with the processes involved. The new Federally funded DCFChargers are outside the right of way and involve new people unfamiliar with the DOT bidding process. The handling of the bidding of the Federally funded DCFChargers should have been seen as an economic development activity and assigned to state business development departments. They are more used to dealing unfamiliar bidders.

I suspect some states will slow-roll the rollout of EV chargers. For example, states that are trying to encourage the adoption of coal-powered automobiles, states that are restricting the development of wind farms because of cancer concerns, and states that have legalized the disablement of particulate emissions systems on diesel-powered dualies. I believe that leaves HI and Guam (oh, wait, Guam isn’t worthy of statehood - never mind ?)

I'm in Virginia. If I want to head west I have to go north or south because there are almost no DCFC in West Va. One at a car dealer in Charleston.

I have no idea what the lead time for a DCFC unit is but last I heard the utility transformer lead times are over 52 weeks so unless an installation has already been designed and procured it will not be built in 2023!

All of the US federal NEVI state infrastructure plans can be found here: (spoiler alert they are all multi-year plans)

The copper shortage is going to slow down DCFC deployment. It's a big problem for electrification.
