I have no problem either way. Always drove with the car in the middle (even without BC) but changed up just recently to see the difference. I will probably change back soon as I dislike the long blue bar indicating the battery charge and prefer the percentage displayed when car is in the middle. Or maybe someday I will start getting updates again but I won’t hold my breath!

I don't much care where the speed is displayed, but I don't like the prioritization of the static car icon over speed.

What I really want in the driver display is media information. Many cars show what's playing in their instrument cluster, including several Ford and Lincoln vehicles I've driven.

Media information is especially helpful when you have Carplay on the center screen but are listening to Sirius. Similar use case would be using built-in nav while playing music through Carplay. There's plenty of white space on the driver's display. A talented UI designer could add it without making things cluttered.

Switch drive modes. Each is different. These threads are exactly the reason Ford needs to have a user configurable ipc.

They made the placement consistent. Having a gauge that moves depending on what mode the car is in is bad design. People should always know where it is regardless of having something or another turned on.

I could care less where it is. Every car I've owned has had it on one side or the other. Usually with the tach on the other side. The center being things like turn signals, bright light indicator, clock, trip info, etc. Add to that the fact that I almost never look at the speedometer as it is, it's position isn't a big deal to me. But, when I do see a cop and need to check my speed, having it in the same place all the time does matter.

And, if the car starts beeping at me about something, I much, much prefer that whatever indicator the beeping is for is front and center.

They moved all the speed information into one consistent place, this makes sense from a utility and design standpoint. They also intend to give everyone blue cruise and want to give people access to important sensor data like how close they are following or if the car feels you are leaving a lane. Absolute speed is not really that important and is why it was moved. The angst around this is absolutely mindboggling and this community does not need to stoop to the literal insanity that the tesla crowed brings.

I realize not everyone has blue cruise and lots of people "don't want to use the sensor data" but this isn't a legitimate argument because it's all meant for you to drive safer, having a speedometer in the middle of the display does not help as much as effectivly displaying all avilabile driving information effectively.

They have essentially moved from a dash created by a marketing person to one of actual utility so I can understand the emotion behind the change, the person who designed it was obviously good at their job.

There are some nice thoughtful replies here; but I’m pretty sure you’ve fallen for a satirical outrage post by OP.

I am considering filing a suit against Ford for medical injuries I received by having to keep my head turned slightly to the right to see the speedometer but my left eye to the center to drive. I strained my eye connector ligament very badly.

Why does my ICE car have a tach on one side and the speedo on the other?!?!?!
Put the speedo in the middle where I can see it, because looking to one side of the gauge cluster is unfathomable!!!! [sarc]

The hate for having the car in the middle and the speed on the side is really petty.

Don't you people use bluecruise and lane centering?!?!
Great now folks here are going to complain about not having a tach too.

I've used lane centering and had the speed on the right since the day I bought the car in 2021. It's certainly not a big deal, at least to me.
yeah I don't understand all the angst surrounding 6.8 My 21 the car was always in the center of the display because I had the driver's aids on, same in my 23. Speed on the right, just not a hill to die on IMHO.

I recall on one of the fb groups someone complained about the sound the turn signal makes on the mach e. Then we have people complaining about the ambient lighting, the back up sound. The pedestrian safety sound. and many more I"m too tired to list.

I have come to accept that a Ford is not a Tesla. And a Tesla is not a Ford.

I can tell you that when Tesla updated their software from V10 (which was an absolute beauty of an interface) to V11 (which proved to be a disaster at all levels, so much so, that in the last two years, they rolled back many changes and made it V10-like again), the magnitude of backlash was much higher than what we are talking about here (assuming 6.8.0 which I have not gotten yet). Trust me, it could have been a lot worse. And this is the kind of change that is just so easy to roll back.
I don’t believe you! There’s no way the Tesla faithful would ever criticize ANYTHING Elon does. We all know that Elon is out perfect savior and everything he creates is without flaw or imperfection ????

No. Lane centering works on about 1/3 of the roads here. That means all flavors of BlueCruise won't work on 2/3 of the roads. And this is not a unique problem.
Well, I’m sure there are some nice, wintry midwestern states you could move to with lots of lane centering and blue zones ?
Paradise does have a price ?

Seriously, the “simple” solution would be to allow some degree of customization of the IP. Obviously, there are legal and regulatory concerns, but I’m pretty sure that, as long as a speedometer is prominently displayed, it can be displayed almost anywhere.
