Really
Car can be tracked with Sirius XM. The police have the ability to contact them and they have to give coordinates of the vehicles position regardless of you are subscribed to Sirius or not.
Really? I'm not a subscriber... But who do I tell about this? Call Sirius?

Well, at least that's what was stated in the vehicle theft statistics for Germany.
Can't tell whether it is true or not.
It's best to just believe in it until it hits you
Check out the German EV6 forums. They appear to have pretty severe issues. Maybe it's the 800 Volt charging - faster to run on the Autobahn that way.

Curious, talking about keeping your fobs in a faraday bag. If you only use PAAK for your key is that as susceptible to these types of thefts? I can't get into the car half the time with PAAK so I'm assuming it doesn't constantly send out a signal like the fob does.

This is why I have two hidden air tags in my cars at all times. If the thieves notice an air tag nearby, they'll tear the car apart looking for it and when they find it, they assume it's the only one. Never rely on the Fordpass app. Ford makes it easy for thieves to clear out your phone so repossessions can occur without you tracking the car. I think all car makers should be required to give you the ability to lockout this feature with a password if there are no liens on your car.

Wouldn’t you rather they don’t steal it in the first place?
Depends on how much damage is done in the driveway really.
If they carve up the dash for some stupid reason wiring is trashed. Not sure I want my car being reharnessed as there’s far to many things to replace and it’ll take forever, and the parts probably don’t exist (see the current month long wait for a IPC).
If they pry the doors open, that’s paint and body time. Odds that gets done right are thin and again weeks + wait times. Does the insurance co provide a rental? If not you’re out the car and out the rental while the body shop waits for weeks to get a foam gasket for the mirror.
Sadly we’re really starting to get to a time if I get in a fender bender I’d almost rather take the loss now than deal with it for months and then try to sell/trade a car damaged.
I’m still trying to figure out what thief's are doing with stolen MME’s. Joy riding? Or stripping.

Do faraday bags or boxes work for protecting the rf signals of the keyfobs?

They block the RF signals, both directions. The point of "faraday" bag / box / cage is it blocks all magnetic radiation. Realistically no bag / box / cage is perfect but it's more than good enough to stop something like a keyfob across the powers / frequencies we use. So, yeah, use a bag - or if you're cheap / in a hurry carefully seal the fob in aluminum foil.

The people who took the OPs car are sophisticated enough to know how to hack the system.

That also means that if Ford made this impossible, they’d be sophisticated enough to know which cars to try to steal.

Either way, I still think prevention is far superior to tracking.

It’s why the police always have the same recommendations for your cars and homes-
keep them locked
Have a security system
Have a visible camera

Thieves look for easy targets. I can’t count how many times I’ve read stories of cars in my area getting “broken in to” on Nextdoor. The story is always the same- it was unlocked.

If they break our windows or pry the doors open- alarms go off. Thieves don’t like that.

My point is if they're sophisticated enough to steal the car via these methods they arn't out to steal the owners CD collection. They're going to remove things that can be sold or have value. But what. What on these cars besides a couple choice things is worth jacking it for, that could be sold easily for a bunch of money. Headlights, maybe, mirrors, fairly easy, wheels nope. The battery, though expensive. is a REALLY hard sell and no possibly way there's buyers for it out there unless they're building black market powerwalls.
I'm still just not seeing the value in the stolen bits, not from a criminals standpoint, though I havn't been one so I might not be seeing the picture the same.

I haven't seen anyone mentioned to use the map app to locate it. I do that when I loan mine to see if they are where they say they were going to. It's within the FordPass bottom right corner.

I'd love for @Ford Motor Company to make it much more difficult for the car to be stolen. Until that time, I'm hoping that my AirTag installed in a hard to find place (with its speaker removed) will be scanned and found by any potential thieves and they'll decide to move on. I don't really want to rely on the AirTag for tracking; I hope it provides some prevention.

To all of you asking why Ford don’t have some sort of 2FA system to prevent unauthorised Master Resets….

Well they do (in the UK anyway) - it’s called Ford Secure. For just £6 per month Ford will require an authentication from FordPass app before allowing a Master reset on a Mach-E.

Not sure why they don’t offer this in the USA?

Yes. I have a faraday pouch. They do eventually wear out from taking your key in/out all the time. Test if the car unlocks even if the key is in the pouch then time to replace.
