What does the button on the camera housing do?

There is a similar sensor under the front bumper that measures outside air temperature. It extends farther out from the bumper cover. ??

Sensors shouldn’t look like buttons. That’s bad design. It makes me too curious.
I agree with you in principle.

But cars generally don’t have unmarked / unnamed buttons. Every button has some label or icon next to it or on it indicating what it does. I looked around the car and only found one obvious exception - the sunglasses compartment lid (and glovebox but these are all too common now) and even that should have a sunglasses icon on it in my opinion. The one you’re talking about is just a temperature sensor, I believe, as others too have pointed out.

You’re completely correct. They don’t. But it looks so much like a button. I didn’t think it was any kind of normal function. I was guessing some kind of camera reset button. The kind of thing you should never really need but could plausibly exist.
