I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this or found a fix.

Since I got a number of updates in mid January I started having CarPlay issues where it would connect over and over and over making it hard to use. It would eventually settle down.

Note iOS 17.3 came out around then to.

Well with more updates recently to the car and 17.4 out now it’s basically unusable at times. Neither restarting the phone nor infotainment fixes it. When it does work doing things on the phone (15 pro) can cause CarPlay to break.

This isn’t purely an iOS issue though. Because my phone works perfectly in a Honda CR-V. It’s the combination of the two, I think. I don’t have another phone to check in the Mach E on CarPlay.

Note: I only use wired CarPlay, plugging and unplugging the phone won’t fix it either.

There has been some discussion about removing the phone from your car's configuration and adding it again from scratch helping the situation. But I haven't tried it, because I haven't been experiencing any issues with CarPlay (2023.0 MME, iOS 17.4 on iPhone 14 Pro Max).

Might be worth a try, though!

I’m trying to avoid that if I can since it’s the nuclear option. It means setting up PaaK again, minor CarPlay settings, etc.

What power-up version are you on ? I haven't received 6.8 yet (and there are people on 6.14) and have no issues with IOS 17.4

I’m on 6.8. I see I forgot to include that.

sometimes CarPlay works fine. Yesterday I fought with it for like 10+ minutes in a fast food line and eventually gave up. Like 15 minutes later I plugged it in and everything worked perfectly for the rest of the drive.

It’s rather infuriating.

I have your same hardware and software versions (but a Pro Max) and haven’t had any connection issues. If you haven’t done so, try rebooting the Sync screen (hold the volume button down while pressing the right arrow button until the screen goes blank). Hopefully that will clear it up!

I’ve tried that and in the past it always worked but this time it doesn’t.

It’s all very odd.

Removing the phone from SYNC is separate from removing it from FordPass and PAAK. That one isn’t that bad. So you can re-pair it without affecting PAAK. Leave the Bluetooth connection with your VIN in it, delete the other one without a number. Also delete the CarPlay connections on your phone. Reboot both your phone and SYNC then re-pair.

I am on 17.4 and 6.13, and no issues for me. I have recently stopped using Carplay because every app, including this one, has ads that take over the audio, and it's just annoying. Before people attack me for using my phone while in the car....I sit at my daughter's soccer practice in the car, listening to music and playing on my phone. I have had it on for the past week and had 17.4 installed since release.

I’m sometimes in a similar situation. That’s why I live life with an ad blocker and use this forum on the web.

Play audio I didn’t ask for? You’re gone. Life’s too short.

I get weird stuff, like no problem yesterday, no problem this morning on my way to an appointment, but on the return, music was playing (from Apple Music), but CarPlay wasn't showing. When I toggled CarPlay on/off in the Settings app (my usual) fix, the music stopped, but CarPlay didn't reappear.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. iOS 17.4 on job 1 2021 me with OTA 6.8.0+SVD+CHG+...

I also had Apple maps hang and the APIM became unresponsive during a different drive. Had to reboot phone and APIM in both cases.

(The center portrait screen is the APIM, right?)

Yeah, I should say that I do occasionally have a weird issue or two with it. What I've noticed is that if I make a quick stop, where I was using CarPlay, then shut off the car and run into a store and grab something, and then come back out and start the car within a few minutes, CarPlay won't talk to my phone properly.

And every now and then, it starts up, but fails when it tries to apply my sound settings, and my music sounds like it's all coming out of the center speaker with EQ that sounds like an AM radio.

But a SYNC reset seems to fix the first one, and simply turning off the audio with the button on the screen in the middle of the dial, and then turning it back on fixes the second one for me.

I do agree that it can be a bit infuriating when it doesn't work as expected. But those issues are few and far between for me, and I generally have nearly zero issues with it. Sorry to hear that you've been getting worse problems!

I have a 2021 GTPE and a pro15 with 17.3. I only use it wireless and haven’t had any trouble with CarPlay.
