It's a difficult question to answer in a number of ways I think. From this forum it looks like some sort of problem with the driver facing camera is indeed widespread. BUT so far it looks like there are a number of different ways that the system failed, and the details of some of these groups of failures are lacking from the posts or just general understanding of what's causing the system to go wrong.
Even with my specific failure it's hard to tell if this is solely a software issue "bricking' the module involved or ????. The fact that so many folks had issues after that software update certainly points to a bad update, but a lot of people had failure modes and symptoms different than mine.
IMO there appears to be big differences in the competency of the dealerships to diagnose and correct these issues, from what a lot of the posts are saying. I feel fortunate (so far) that my local dealership where I also purchased the car has been able to quickly figure out what's up and at least get the car back to baseline function.
I still really love the car, so I mostly ignore the dumb little things that seem to happen here and there (Fordpass freezing up, the SYNC system doing weird things). I have accepted that Ford is trying to play catch up to Tesla with the app and OTA software, so unless I get more items that cause me real problems and poor support to correct them, I'm still keeping and enjoying my MME.
