Are you doing this when you open trunk or door? Nope. The frunk is a storage compartment as a trunk the workflow of exterior lights should be identical.

And also it’s doesn’t make sense what you suggest, because you already have exterior lights on when you opened the door to switch on hazard or parking lights.
I’m not trying to create something here. I’m just saying you get out of the car and shut the door and you’ve got the front end open and you’re on the side of the road. You should have your hazard lights on regardless whether they come or not if you wanna be seen you need to have those on Common sense sorry .

No worries. I absolutely agree with you, it’s common sense in situation you described. I’m talking about different thing. Let’s say you are coming from the grocery store at late evening hit trunk release button in the app, car lights up, some cars even make annoying beep, trunk opens. Other drivers see your car lights and you, all are safe. But if you hit frunk release button, nothing happens you are near absolutely dark car and other drivers are not aware about your presence.

Right but last night I had to pull the negative cable while I was dark out on the battery, I mean when you open the frunk it’s like an illuminated coffin lol, so there is some lights. It’s all good.

So if I walk up to my car and do not unlock it I am unsafe? If you do not feel safe park in a lighted area. Otherwise just unlock your car first and then pop your frunk. I would suggest that it is not a big deal or a safety issue or it would have been brought up before now.

Does any other car with a frunk light up when the frunk is opened? I’d start there. Or with the relevant federal safety standard that might govern this.

I think he's figured out if he wants a feature added then the fastest way to get it is to scream "safety" without any need for justifying it. You're all overthinking it. Think.

Eh, I have no issues with the lighting, I find the lights on handy when setting up a tent after dark.

I can't think of any car that lights come on when opening the hood. Not a safety issue at all that the frunk opening does not cause the lights to come on.

The welcome lights should turn on when a fob or PAAK is detected near the car. Isn't it enough?

No one car does that, but how many car provide storage compartment under the hood?

Yes and No. For those who use this feature yes, but not for others who turned off the welcome light, because of the battery drain when it's parked at home.

For all members, thanks for your responses. At least now I understand why Ford didn't implement this feature. I didn't find any regulations about that. Even more, not all other cars turn on the exterior lights when the TRUNK is open. In this case, Ford is much better than other manufacturers.

For those who use FRUNK regularly what would you prefer exterior lights turn ON or OFF when Frunk is open?

The difference is obvious:

Ford Mustang Mach-E When the frunk is open, the car lights stay off. This is not OK! 202404-1

Ford Mustang Mach-E When the frunk is open, the car lights stay off. This is not OK! 202404-2

I honestly can't think of a situation where I would be close to the car but the lights wouldn't be on anyway. In your pictures you took them standing far back, but any time I get near my F-150 or Mach-e, all the lights come on.

I have actually developed a crazy-person-adjacent habit of sometimes talking to my F-150 because it has deployable running boards and when I am walking by the boards come out and lights come on and I sadly tell it "not right now".

So with that in mind, if I had the frunk open and actually approached the MME, the lights would come on. They wouldn't stay on forever, but that wouldn't be a big concern for me any more than the lights not staying on forever when I have the hood open on the F-150.

If someone is close enough to my car that me standing right in front of it puts me in the danger zone, that person is already driving in a dangerous enough way that lights wouldn't deter them.

Another reason it isn't a priority is likely because the frunk doesn't stick out or have a range of motion that extends from the vehicle where the rear hatch or my F-150s tailgate does. Having more illumination when something is in motion extending away from the vehicle is more important than a hood that only extends away vertically and doesn't go much beyond the roof line.

I've tried to convince my nieces that it lights up because it's my dog and it's happy to see me. As for boards deploying, you can change that to door opening only.

Ok, maybe they exterior lights should come on, let's say OP is completely correct.
He should focus on the fact that it took him that much thought to find a complaint about his Mach-E!
What an awesome vehicle you have! Something so minor is your only complaint! Be happy and point out the positives to Ford and let them know what an awesome job they have done!!

This thread may sound like a complaint, but it's not. I agree with you, I have an awesome vehicle and I am always on track to make it better

This feature is Welcome light and can be turned off from the settings.
