I still may keep the car after the options, but I am not liking the vibe coming from Dearborn. The problem is I won't go back to an ICE and there aren't a lot of even moderately reliable choices. GM and VW clearly have serious software problems of their own, and I refuse to give Elon a penny.
So far I'm liking my Genesis GV60 Performance. It's a smidge smaller than the Mach E, doesn't have walkaway-locking or wireless AA/CP, and the range is a little shorter (but the charge curve is much better!) but in all the ways that are important to us, it's much nicer than my Premium 4X.

Oh, and its HDA (Highway Driving Assist) has a nav-based mode similar to BlueCruise. But unlike 1.0, it does lane changes. It also displays blocks that represent the other vehicles on in proximity to your car, which is a nice touch that gives me confidence that the system is "seeing" everything I see.

Yikes. I would escalate with BEV team talk with the manager they can make it right or should reimburse you.

their OTA updates Cause the issue and Ford knows that and should be liable for the repair and payment @Ford Motor Company fix that problem
This sounds like a NHTSA and FTC (Federal Trade Commission) issue.

And it doesn’t have a frunk, or a feature equivalent to BlueCruise Hands-Free.

Great question. @Ford Motor Company DM'd me, took some details of my case, and said someone would reach out. Three weeks later, no one has. I've gone from being an enthusiastic advocate of this car (as a first time Ford driver) to looking forward washing my hands of this asap.
Completely understandable. Keep posting updates if anything does (or doesn't) happen. This thread is going to have a big impact on how long I plan on keeping my car or have any interest in future Ford products. Absolutely ridiculous if they end up deciding its on you.

The refrigerator didn't break because the manufacturer pushed a buggy OTA.
But it can now! New LG fridge, for some reason needs wifi in order to make ice. Pretty close to an OTA killing it.

I wouldn't let one thread, and one persons attempt, however big or small it maybe, sway you from how you keep the car. I bought an ESP for this reason. Knowing this wagon is fragile.

Exactly. This forum is preaching to the choir. Nothing will come of pitching a fit on here. We have 3~4 years of that proven track record in all these posts. Take an angry mob to actual social media, results will happen.

But it's also an issue with, 1 car vs many a car.
1 Car, you're footing the bill
Couple more cars, their footing the bill
Bushel of cars Ford realizes this isn't a little thing and actually takes steps to do something about it.
The shitty part of bushle? It's probably 'fixed' 2 years after you dumped the vehicle.

Before you make that decision, call any other manufacturer and ask what happens if they send a buggy software update to a car outside of warranty and see how they handle that situation.

Unfortunately I’m going to bet you will find the identical experience at other manufacturers, that none of them would pay for you to get service at a local dealership.

The common answer will be either to wait for another update to fix the bug or pay out of pocket when out of warranty to get service at a dealership.

Let's suppose for a second that Apple sent an IOS update to all phones that made Apple's email app not work for users who are no longer under iphone warranty. What do we think Apple would do? Do we think they'd require the iphone owner to pay to fix this IOS update? Issue an immediate rollback? It would be unconscionable. I don't see how this is different other than I paid 50x for my car vs. my iphone.

There are just so many reasons that an automobile software update and a smartphone software update are not relatable.

Not excusing Ford's shortcomings. They are real.

But I would love a smartphone with a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty!
And 5 years on hardware.
And 8 years on the battery. :)

No, Apple would send another update to fix it.

Highly unlikely they would pay a service center to fix it out of warranty.

But this isn’t about a phone, it’s about a car outside of warranty.

Call Chevy, BMW, Porsche, Honda, whoever and ask them how they would respond to your exact situation.

I’ve never said you should be happy about it. But was just responding to the other poster who wants to switch brands over it.

I don’t think switching brands would yield a different result.

A lawsuit and everything may work, but isn't going to change Ford's position. You really need to go to the news. This is something that just feels viscerally wrong. It's a great consumer affairs story. Ford will only look at this with enough attention on it.

Can you show me an example of Tesla sending an update the breaks a major feature and making customers out of warranty pay to fix it? Or Apple sending an update that breaks a major feature on iPhone and making anyone outside of their 1 year iPhone warranty or without AppleCare go to an Apple store and then pay out of pocket to fix it?

I'm well aware of how many issues this platform has. Mine's been to the dealer more frequently than any other car I've ever owned to fix them. Just more reasons to dump it after the warranty ends.
