I do very little DCFC charging and still have free charging with EA. I used to be able to view my balance. I don't recall if it was on Fordpass or ford.com. I can't find the balance any more. I've had the car less than a year so I wouldn't think the free charging has expired. Do I need to call Ford to find out?

I was able to locate my email pertaining to my last charge at EA last fall that shows the balance. It's sad that Ford took away the option to view your balance.
It makes me wonder what they will do next.

New EVs sold won't get the free 250 kWh on Electrify America anymore starting next month. So that's probably why it's not going to be shown anymore in the app. You'll still be able to use up what you have left after June 1st. But if you've been sitting on your free EA kWh forever, I'd recommend using it up this summer.

I used my “Free “ electricity to get home when I first got my car (350 miles). I still probably have over half of it left and I don’t see myself using it.

I charge at home from my house Solar panels and power wall.

I don’t have any road trips planned for the summer.

I got my car on July 4th.

...at this rate, I may have to visit the EA near Best Buy in Kennesaw, just to use my 'free' minutes.
I typically charge at home. And, haven't yet done a road trip that required charging.

There’s no requirement you actually use your EA credits. :)

...touche'.

I think I also want practice on how to use the public charger.
Still unsure if one should turn the car off, to perform a public charge...

There’s also nothing wrong with using the EA credits. I actually never used my 500 kWh credit on my car. I DCFC at the local station once to make sure it actually worked and have used DCFC exactly twice in the three years since, all at Shell Recharge stations as that’s what we have here.

...cheers. Do you recall if the car was on/off, during your DCFC charge session?

I always precondition before arrival and plug into DCFC without shutting car down. Once the session begins and it’s getting the speeds I would expect. Push off button, lock doors and walk away.
I think you can plug in while off too, not sure it matters.

The statement above how that accomplished while you’re on the road driving doesn’t it do that if you have a trip planned and it has charging stations located along the route?

how do you precondition? I’ve only ever plugged in to a DCFC after driving for a while.

and do you precondition while at home?

Nobody ever gave me guidance so trying to figure it out now.

I know nothing about preconditioning that’s what I was asking that guy about that statement he made I always precondition before I get to the charger so I was just wondering how is that accomplished like today? I came home. I’m at 30% and I just charge and go about my business tomorrow if I go anywhere, I just didn’t know how they accomplished this preconditioning while they’re getting ready to arrive at a fast charger.

If you are heading to a charger destination using the Ford Nav, the car will be getting ready ahead of time to enable the max charge rate. Aka precondition.

There is also cabin preconditioning which you choose with scheduled departure times. These are unrelated actions, despite sharing similar names.

I you use an alternate nav system, the car will not perform the preconditioning steps.

The reason I say to always precondition the battery is because you won’t know the current battery temp — driving for a while, even hours could still be below optimal temp.
Earlier this month, it was 60 deg F ambient and I still set the nav to DCFC. It’s most important to do during winter, but I say do it all the time just to be sure.
