What is official advice on late 2023 Mach E’s with the Lithium Phosphate batteries? Old advice was 30-80%. Salesman and Google search responses say charging to 100% daily is not only ok, but advisable. This seems consistent with general info on Lithium Phosphate batteries. Is there a problem with using the last 20-30% of battery to get home? What does Ford say?

Ford says you should charge the LFP to 100% at least once per month to maintain range accuracy.

100% daily is okay too on LFP batteries.

Personally if I had an LFP, I'd probably change it to 90% daily and 100% once a week.

There is no problem using all of the battery to get home. Personally I don't like to run it down much below 10% however.

My 5.0 Ford Pass will only allow a max of 95%. I try and toggle to 100% and moves back to 95.

I think Tesla recommends charging LFP batteries to 100% at least once a week. Ford says at least once a month. I usually do short daily trips so I charge daily to 80% and every other week to 100%.
From my understanding It shouldn't be harmful to charge the LFP to 100% frequently.

I have contacted Ford's representatives directly about this as information about it is sparse. And dealership and salespeople generally have no idea. They assured me it is perfectly acceptable to charge to 100% daily with LFP battery.

Should LFP batteries be charged to 100%?
Battery scientists generally suggest charging an EV battery to 80-85% for optimal lifetime. However, this wisdom applies to NCA and NMC chemistry. Since LFP batteries are more stable, they can be charged to 100% for daily driving (and, Tesla recommends it!).

In effect, charging to 100% means that the usable range for an LFP powered Model 3 is the same as its EPA range, while the usable range for an NCA Model 3 is only around 90% of that. When you do the math, the LFP battery has a longer daily range.

It didn't get updated in the 2023 manual, but the 2024 includes a section for it and says to set charging target to 100%.

I wish they would have a buffer that we couldn't access that would do all this by itself in the background. I think my volt kinda did that. Who wants to have to think about this all the time.

I have been charging mine to 95% most days. Once a week I try to do 100%. It seems like it sort of lost some accuracy on the state of charge after about a week for me, but I drive about 800km per week. If you don’t drive as much it may not be an issue as soon.

The only reason I don’t charge to full every day is because untill it gets down to around 93%, when stopping it uses the friction brakes. I would rather just use regen to stop earlier on in my drive. Save those brake pads.

Even more important, don't let the car sit at near 0% charge.
