I'll bet we'll be hearing plenty from the 2% that aren't happy, though! ?
I'm not complaining; it's a nice improvement, but it's not class leading. Marginally faster than the Model Y Performance but significantly slower than the Model 3 performance and even the Kia EV6 GT. I think Ford can and should continue to improve performance in subsequent model years.

This is a decent mid-gen bump however for most existing owners, it isn't significantly different than the existing cars. For all the notariety the '5 second limit' gets, in a real world daily driving scenario, it hardly has ever mattered to me personally. I have a R2 on pre-order which will eventually replace my 2nd car so that is probably gonna be the next EV for me if they can meet the timelines and exist till then.

So when the VP said they would almost a year ago, that was just………what exactly?

He even said they were doing testing back then!!

If the upgrade came with extra torque, I would gladly pay.

If it’s no more power and just better thermal mapping, that had better be FREE.

I honestly feel they owe that to us at this point. The fact that they’re STILL noncommittal and acting like they “haven’t had enough time” to test it 3 years later is completely unacceptable.
Agree. If silly stuff like adding the charging kw to the display (let alone BC1.3) is still on their "to do" list, I have little hope though. C'mon Ford...

Advanced Driver Assistance System, AKA cruise control and lane keeping assist.

We didn't get the chance, but it would be interesting to drive the non-performace upgraded GT to compare. It should still have the updated thermal model. I don't think we can say it has the same 5 second rule as before until somebody tests it, my guess is it lasts longer than 5 seconds, but total output is less which nets about the same time as the GTPE in the 1/4 mile.
I listened to the OOS podcast on the way home and Kyle said they got "about 25 seconds" of full power before they started seeing jail bars.

That said, it's Kyle so he basically shirt on the car for 30 minutes and said the only reason to get it over a MYP was if you hate Elon. ?

Meh. People buy different cars for a variety of reasons.
I don't know what's the obsession with this straight line 0-60 stuff. There are far more to a vehicle performance dimension than mashing the "gas" pedal.

Well, while still underwhelming, it's better than the 5 second limiter it DID have. Ford's a legacy oriented company and it's going to take a while for them to catch up to many others in the industry when it comes to EV's. They're trying, and that's good.

Do you know if the new rear motor made it's way into the 2023.5 mid year update? It got the new battery and range boost so I'm assuming so, but haven't seen that spelled out.

The front motors in all models are unchanged, still the Magna motor in the base AWD and the BorgWarner motor in GT models.
I'm a bit surprised to see the old motor is still used in the front, but it was probably either too much of an engineering cost to redesign its setup, or they didn't have the time. If they're not planning on releasing a next-generation in the near future, we might see a front-end rework at some point to use the new motor and replace the small front motor. I wouldn't be surprised to see the small front motor become an induction motor to save costs since maximum power density won't be a concern in those configurations.

So does the new motor not really do anything for the range then? At least on the standard range LFP battery the ranges are the same between the 2023.5 and 2024, so that would mean no range improvement on the new motor if so.

@Mach-Lee you have just written the best and most significant piece of Mach-E automotive journalism that I've read in the past 3 years. Lots of great stuff. Great work and thank you.

@Ford Motor Company thank you very much for listening to us and fixing this car. We were sold lies in 2021 by ford marketing and management. Glad to see that you're making solid attempts to fix your mistakes.

To everyone else on this forum who told us to STFU and stop complaining... I salute you with a giant middle finger. Ford actually fixed their shit.

I did. That can't just assume that the modeling will apply to 2021-2023 model years. They will have to do testing and it sounded like they haven't committed to doing that.
Ironic; my immediate reaction would be: "yes to a non-Ford."

If Ford wants all the sweet sweet subscription revenue from a software defined vehicle, then they need to deliver on it. That means doing that modeling for the 21-23s and upgrading charging curves, power output, etc.

Almost agree.

Will agree when they actually fix the 2021 to 2023.

If this new version has better thermal management and reduced power limiting, then why is the 1/4 mile time for the GT (no upgrade) identical to the 2021-23 models in their chart? I expected to see improved 1/4 mile time on the GT and even better with the new performance upgrade.
Well, they’re saying the 2024 regular GT is the same 1/4 mile as the old GTPE, so according to Ford that would be an improvement.

They also don’t list the mph, just the time.

My guess is that with real world testing, just like with 2021-2023 GT vs GTPE, the non-performance upgraded GT 1/4 mile time is underrated and they’ll be much closer.

Real world the GT and GTPE were maybe .15 second difference 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

The .3 advertised difference was to trick people like myself into paying extra for it.

I should have known better than to think that 34 lb ft of tq available for a split second would equal .3 second improvement 0-60.

2024 Regular GT prediction-
0-60 in 3.65 (like 2021-2023), 1/4 mile 12.0 at 112 mph.

But good luck finding one to test! My bet is a near 100% take rate on the performance upgrade.
