If you are heading to a charger destination using the Ford Nav, the car will be getting ready ahead of time to enable the max charge rate. Aka precondition.

There is also cabin preconditioning which you choose with scheduled departure times. These are unrelated actions, despite sharing similar names.

I you use an alternate nav system, the car will not perform the preconditioning steps.

The reason I say to always precondition the battery is because you won’t know the current battery temp — driving for a while, even hours could still be below optimal temp.
Earlier this month, it was 60 deg F ambient and I still set the nav to DCFC. It’s most important to do during winter, but I say do it all the time just to be sure.
OK makes sense so I suppose if I have my scanner plugged into my computer port and it shows the battery temperature what would that battery temp be? For instance what would be a good temperature? Thank you.

You’re talking about these temperatures?

Yes! If you have an ability to monitor with an ODBII device, these are the numbers to look at.

The car will request its max charge rate when you are somewhere between 85 and 90 deg F.

The further you are from those temps and charge speed will be limited.

Cool thanks, yes, I probably could add those values to the dashboard on the phone and monitor while driving.

New EVs sold won't get the free 250 kWh on Electrify America anymore starting next month. So that's probably why it's not going to be shown anymore in the app. You'll still be able to use up what you have left after June 1st. But if you've been sitting on your free EA kWh forever, I'd recommend using it up this summer.
Well, if there's no way to see the balance anymore, how will we know when the remaining credits expire? Ford said they'd expire after 3 years, but that's not true.

...touche'.

I think I also want practice on how to use the public charger.
Still unsure if one should turn the car off, to perform a public charge...

There is no reason to turn the car off, especially if you are going to be sitting in it and it's cold, or hot. In very cold weather, turn the heat off for the first 10 minutes of charging.

At 30 minutes it will shutdown anyway unless you override it when in the car.

Good question .
I just used EA last weekend for the first time on my NEW GT and was charged $32. Ford Pass tech was trying to talk me through where to look on FP for my remaining balance . I told her that tab doesn't exist anymore because of the app redesign. She did NOT know that .
Im not feeling confident about a remedy in my favor.

I do very little DCFC charging and still have free charging with EA. I used to be able to view my balance. I don't recall if it was on Fordpass or ford.com. I can't find the balance any more. I've had the car less than a year so I wouldn't think the free charging has expired. Do I need to call Ford to find out?
With the new app I can’t even use my credits.

Did you activate the station with FordPass?
I did not . It's been a while since I used DCFC but still I don't remember doing it on the 21 Mach . Plug and Charge is still IN the car ...NO ?

I spoke to EA and they will deduct from your Ford Pass and then refund back to your form of payment

If it used Plug and Charge (or activated with the FordPass app), it should have used your free balance. If you activated with the EA app, it would not use your balance.

Yeah Im a little confused about the whole thing . To make it worse the EA was across the lot from a Tesla SC. I asked the family how much they were paying at the SC. Guy said "its peak time now so 39 cents per " EA was 68 cents . Where's my stinking adapter ?
BTW guy said off peak was 19 cents .
Anyone with an adapter know OUR pricing ?
Do WE get those great rates or might that guy have had an account and was paying for the discounted rate ?
