Interestingly my car has this setting off by default.

I have a 23 Cal RT1 with blue cruise. As I am driving down the highway running at the posted speed of 70mph, my car suddenly brakes and slows down significantly. After this scary event has happened several times I have discovered that the blue cruise is picking up a 45mph posted on the frontage road. I stopped using BC for fear of getting rear ended and causing a dangerous condition. I did a quick search with no luck, am I the only one?
you have to be ready to use both the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal, and you have to be ready to grab the steering wheel too. Do people follow too close where you live? Around here people aren’t too bad, if I had to stop for an animal on the road or a cyclist when there isn’t enough room to pass i wouldn’t normally get hit from behind. So, I don’t worry too much about the people behind me.

Yes, the 1st time I used it. It picked up a slip road 20mph sign and also a vehicle show a restricted to sign on the back of it's Trailor. Turned off speed limit assist and subsequent runs have been fine.

You make it sound like it slammed on the brakes. Yes, I’ve heard it screw up before, but based on my experience going from 70 to a 45 mph zone, it decelerated pretty smoothly.

What's dangerous is car owners not exploring and understanding the settings of their vehicles before driving them. Fine, don't read the manual, but not sitting and going through the settings, then calling the car dangerous, is ridiculous.

This ain’t your Daddy’s cruise control. The manual describes some of the limitations/considerations of cruise like while taking corners, motor cycles merging etc. I am a big fan of the safety features but always drive safely. Just think of them as part of the safety kit like mirrors, backup lights turn signals. They are not there to drive for you so you can ignore your surroundings.

I wasn't trying to exaggerate, I just wasn't prepared for that to happen. Maybe my reflexes aren't as crisp has yours, Im 78 yrs old. Dallas TX traffic is heavy and fast.

Well you got everybody's attention with that Subject line "BlueCruise is dangerous". That was a bit hyperbolic I think.

That's why you got the advice you did (to turn off Predictive Speed Assist/Speed Sign Recognition, depending on your software revision level).

Yeah - BlueCruise is NOT dangerous. I'd say it drives better than many drivers I've seen out there. I love it. You do have to understand how it works and tweak as needed. I just finished my 3rd MSP-TPA haul and the reduced amount of stress from that drive is palpable. Learn the setting and adjust as needed. Then enjoy the music, even in traffic!

I work in the AV industry and this is known as ā€œphantom brakingā€. Hopefully it’s the speed recognition issue y’all mention rather than a possible radar performance or aiming issue. Or even camera.
My previous Tesla M3 (that we traded for our MME) had phantom braking a few times, full hard brake/decel at 80mph in HOV lane—no obstructions or adjacent traffic. Confidence killer. Luckily no one was behind in those instances. Had the radar focal cone (FOV) checked as we believe it tracked an overhead sign, but was not consistently repeatable at that location. Sucks as my wife never used cruise control for the 5 years we had it because of this.
Hopefully that’s not the issue here as phantom braking sure does make you NOT want to use any of it.
Given I’m a new MME owner, I have been looking forward to BC as the Tesla system sucks having to touch the wheel every 20 seconds—why bother.

I hate Bluecruise and will never use it.
I love Blue Cruise and use it on road trips all the time. I haven’t ever been scared by it either. There are some accels and decels from, whatever, but nothing dangerous.
