My car collecting data for car co, unbelievable! I use my smart phone, and like i can stream to car. I can even use phone when not in my car. I use Google maps. I also like convenience of using Alexa/siri/google. I am careful around red light/speed cameras. Save on insurance with obd. Always arm my ring (love the cameras), security cameras are great for crime, wether in store, house, or on road. I always use my store loyalty card. I always use credit cards for safety. Again unbelievable that a car would collect data, they might miss use it!

Key highlights from the video:
(1) many automakers collect way more data than is needed for the features they say they are collecting it for.
(2) customers are left without choice if they want to use unrelated features of the car - and once you buy a car you can’t return it.
(3) they are not clear on their policies
(4) it seems like government agencies are starting to scrutinize
(5) once they have your data, there are a variety of paths for that data to go to other companies, other people, and law enforcement (some ways intentional, and some ways not - for example in the case of security breaches)

I know there are a few on the forum who don’t care, have given up, and are just fine with this concept- this thread isn’t for you - don’t bother responding with sarcasm.

for everyone else, while I think Ford has some serious issues they need to address (which there is much detail about in other threads). I do think their use of CarPlay/andriod-auto helps to shield us vs. GM and other companies that utilize a separate ecosystem not based on your smartphone, which you pay for, and for which you must give access to much more data.

Key takeaways:
(1) many automakers collect more data than they need, way more for the features they are providing.
(2) customers are often strong-armed, and left without choice - once you buy a car you can’t return it.
(3) they are not clear on their policies
(4) it seems like government agencies are starting to scrutinize
(5) once they have your data, there are a variety of paths for that data to go to other companies, other people, and law enforcement (some ways intentional, and some ways not - for example in the case of security breaches)

I don’t think I’m responding with sarcasm when I say I just don’t know what to do? I mean, I’ve almost lack of words like you said given up. I mean, I have my Alexa and everything turned off in the house from listening and I’m watching TV and my daughter calls and I said well if you’re renting, why don’t you try to Epremium insurance and then five minutes later a commercial that comes up on TV and they never have that commercial on TV so yeah Big Brother watching, you’ll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out. When you’re driving your car you have that accident and you have your seatbelt off and then you click it back in before the police get there. They know the computer knows you had your seatbelt on or not.

It’s a societal issue that is being addressed. The only thing we can do is speak up. One day, gov will stop fighting and address these issues. These issues are being addressed in other industries. It seems to be flying under the radar in the automotive industry. Thus being as vocal as possible is our best bet.

So what? Your data is collected constantly. Nothing bad has happened. Move on or go Amish

Just yesterday there was a news story (kinda late since I read about it about a month ago ) where insurance companies are using drones/planes/satellites to "inspect" policy holders houses and then dropping them if they see things the don't like .
Yeah we do NEED to stand up to this kinda crap. Im old enough to remember insurance companies setting rates partially on what magazines you read . How's THAT tell you if Im a good driver or not ?
Congress just passed a bill forbidding foreign companies from collect data on US citizens . My question was why only foreign companies ?
