Charging Question from Beginner

Hi All. I am now to the community. Just purchased my 2021 Mach e Select. Excited to get started I pick it up tomorrow. I am going to try to apply for the free fast charging adapter but do not know if the previous owner claimed it yet. If not can you suggest some adapters for sale on the market that I can buy to hook up to the Tesla super chargers? Does ford sell the fast charging adapter for a cost if I can’t get it free? Thanks All!

Welcome! You cannot buy one from Ford at this time. If the free one was taken, the top recommended adapter is from A2ZEV.

I always plan my trip with ABRP (A Better Route Planner), check each suggested stop with PlugShare both in advance and during trip, and carry both a Typhoon (Tesla SuperCharger) adapter and a Stellar (Tesla Destination) adapter from A2ZEV. You can get both in the dropdown menu on the Typhoon page, then see a 18.4% discount in the cart.

Ford does not currently sell the adapter. The two DC Fast Charge adapters on the market are from A2Z EV and Lectron. Lectron seems to have had an issue, so many people are preferring to get the A2Z adapter. ??

Note that the DC adapters cannot be used at Tesla L2 chargers (Destination Chargers or home chargers). You would need a separate AC adapter to use at an L2 charger. ??

Hey just a little idea to help you out. IF the car doesn't come with a mobile charger see if they'll throw one in considering that the car CAME WITH ONE in 21 .
It'll be a nice bridge until you can move up to a more robust one if you choose to . I keep mine in the back just to cover my bases while traveling.
If all else fails and Ive miscalculated on when and where to charge up I can always try to find an outlet SOMEWHERE to get some juice . A trick on freeway or the turnpike is to use the RV equipped rest stops to make sure I don't get stranded.

MAGICDOCKS are basically Tesla chargers with the adapters built into the chargers

Download PlugShare app . It will show what chargers are around your area without the need to use built in navigation. I found the local college has an advanced automotive learning building that has a solar powered charger that is free and open to the public. That puppy got me through year 1 until I got a 240 line in my garage .

Thanks I was aware of those becoming available. I think at this point I’m trying to understand where I can charge if it’s a non Tesla supercharger station without an adapter. I will certainly get one, but was curious what to look for to get a charge for now without the adapter and how long it will take. Thanks!

Do you have any suggestions for Home charging cable for the 120v,” outlet until I can get the 240 v installed? Just so I have a backup and can get some miles overnight if needed. I know it’s only 3-4 miles an hour but it’s something. Thanks!

We use the J1772 and CCS Combo Type 1 plugs . Any charger that has them will charge your car. PlugShare can be formatted to show only OUR charging stations .
On the far right is the NACS/Tesla charging plug . See why we need an adapter ?
