A child was trapped in Model Y when its LVB died. Does Mach E face the same risk?

That is going to be such a rare occurrence, you should just call 911 if it ever happens.

You would need jumper cables to get into the car, but carrying them would be pointless because you couldn’t access them if the battery died.

From the video, broke the glass out with an axe. Maybe, I find it hard to believe. I have seen them use a pocket carried spring loaded tool.

There's another thread discussing something very similar. I believe they resolved that there a battery or cap that allows the exterior door button to work a few even after the LVB dies.

I use the Mach E as a daily driver including dropping my kids off at school. And this news concerned me. Does Mach E face the same issue? What do y’all carry with you for emergencies?
You could carry an axe! ?

Being a parent, yes we worry about bad things happening to our kids, even if super rare.

If you live somewhere warm and this is a concern you have a few preventative measures you can take-

1. leave your door open until you unload the kids.
2. Leave your window open until you unload the kids
3. Leave the car running until you unload the kids

Any would prevent this from happening.

Whenever I’m worried about getting locked out or something (valet or dropping car off somewhere), I just leave the window down.

if it concerns you that much , you might consider buying one of these. which apparently work quite well. https://resqme.com/

but I have to ask, do ICE vehicles have any mechanism for getting into them if the battery dies? I genuinely don't know the answer to that.

Yes, they have mechanical door handles, not electrical. And the vast majority of vehicles have a mechanical unlocking key as well (GM EVs have a key for backup).

Teslas also warn you of a low battery condition. Staged or negligence here.

This is Teslas fault - not for this incident per se, but for unnecessarily complicating the door handle when they introduced the Model S.

I don't recall ever using a normal car door handle and thinking, "Man, what would be better is if they added complexity, cost, and reliability concerns because it looks kind of cool when the handle pops out as you approach." Even worse, Tesla retained a cheaper, less ergonomic version of these handles in the 3/Y that lost the cool factor but kept the unnecessarily complicated electronic latch. Plus, they can easily freeze shut! More brilliant 4D chess from Elmo, Inc.

EVs generally have electronic door handles for aero, not necessarily for cool factor. Everyone does it, they just do it in different ways. I know its super trendy to bash on Tesla now, but theres PLENTY to give legitimate criticism for without making things up or pretending Tesla is the only one who does X or Y.

Having owned several Teslas before my Mach E, I have a lot of experience with the things they do well (speed, charging, software), and the things they do NOT do well (build quality, over-minimalism, lack of features existing and future), etc etc.

This is a clickbait article about something that impacts most EVs in some fashion or another (how to open doors in the event of a low voltage battery failure). Tesla warns you well ahead of time of a tying LVB (introduced in a software update some time ago). They have also moved to lithium ion batteries for their LVBs with recent models.

You want to see some really scary LVB stuff, look into the Ionic 5's LVB issues with the first gen of those cars...

If that's the case, the owner probably didn't pay any attention to the warning or the owner noticed the warning but didn't think that it was something major. I don't know what the answer is.

Highly possible, and if people ignore warnings that clearly state that the battery is dying and do stupid things, thats not the fault of the company.

Now, if someone wants to make the case that its a bad design to rely on the LVB for rear door egress then thats a super fair point to make and debate, and should include the breadth of all EVs.

This isn't a defense of Tesla or its CEO, just being pragmatic and encouraging people not to fall for clickbaity nonsense that feeds their personal dislike of a person/company

I’m sure that they have a better tool for it now, but a firefighter friend broke a car window during a rescue with an automatic center punch back in the ‘80s and ended up with a torn up turnout coat. ?‍♂?
