Looking to see if anyone has experience with Nokian WRG5 all weather tires on their Mach-E. I’m looking to upgrade to an all weather tire on my GT, potentially with larger sidewall to slightly improve clearance for snow and ice in the PNW winters. I run Nokian winter tires on my truck and love them. Thx in advance.

While I don't have experience in having these on my Mach E, I have used them in previous cars. (WGR3 and WGR4) They are honestly the best tires I have ever owned. If I had my way, I would swap them out and give back the tires that come from the factory if that was an option. I am actually looking at getting a set of these for this upcoming winter as I feel the factory tires are not going to cut it. We have similar weather up in Vancouver.

We just put their WRG4 on our Chevy bolt. So far they are nice. I feel more confident in the wet weather but won’t be able to test with snow and ice till next winter now. They are noisier than stock Michelins, but not as noisy as winter tires were. Doesn’t bother me, but you can definitely hear them.

For my Mach E I was looking to get the WRG5 but the load rating isn’t high enough for the size of tire that goes on the select (18”) so it’s a no-go. I’ll likely be getting the tried and true Michelin Cross Climate 2.

We have those on our Toyota Highlander, but I run Michelin cross climate two tires on my GT. They are both excellent tires, if I had to pick I'd say the michelins are slightly quieter and have a bit better grip in drier weather.

Both are excellent choices

The Nokian WRG5 is very new I haven't run these but have run the Quatrac Pro. I have been very happy with the Quatrac Pro. Nokian builds tires for Arctic conditions and gives up much of the performance in the wet and dry for performance on unplowed snow. Where I live we get a lot of snow but here in the city, it's regularly plowed.

Here are the test results of a Nokian comparable to the WRG4 and some others.

Here are the results that include Cross Climate and the tires I have the Quatrac Pro ( I actually have the new Quatrac Pro+)

I had heard of the WRG5 being released last year and waited. I noticed when they started to show up at dealers a couple of months ago, but did not have the size and load range for my car. Kyle does a video about the tires on a Tesla.

My original tires hit 70K and the wear was almost to the limit on the rear tires. I searched again and a local tire dealer had the size and load range needed. There was a two day delay in getting the tires so I had to reschedule the appointment to today. It was interesting to talk to the tire guy because he said not too many people know about Nokian tires. It was like I found a hidden gem that many people miss. The tread is not symmetrical so the outside sidewall is marked.

So far it is great for the 10 miles or so I have driven on them. I did not notice any additional noise and they seem to handle like my old OEM tires on dry pavement. It will be interesting to try them out in the rain and snow.

Nokian is interesting I would like to see some comparison tests to the Michelin CC2 and Vredestein Quatrac Pro+. The WRG4 had about 30% less traction in the wet than the leaders in all weather. Past Nokian tires have been tuned to non-plowed roads giving up traction in other conditions to favor blizzard conditions.

Also, keep in mind Kyle was sponsored by Nokian not sure if he still is

Today we were getting like massive amounts of rain and I mean it was very deep rain on the road and I was taking corners with those Michelin‘s like you have 45 to 60 mph in a 45 mile zone see how they handled and tell the truth It felt like I was driving on dry road. They handled so well in the wet weather very impressed and so quiet.

I had g4's on my polestar 2. They reduced range by around 5% and were equally as noisy as the Michelin primacy it came with. They did excellent in the snow and ice we had in Portland in January (or February).

I wonder what the differences are between WRG4 and WRG5. After slightly over three weeks I like the WRG5. They do not seem more noisy than the OEM tires. I may be seeing a 4% drop in efficiency measured by using miles over the SOC% drop between charges, but the data is varying more than 5%. I no longer commute so usage between charges are different mixes of city and highway driving. I am seeing numbers of 3.3 to 3.7 Miles/kW on the old tires and 3.2 to 4.0 Miles/kW on the new tires.

I saw a set of them yesterday. Visually they look near identical to me so It appears to be a tread compound change.

The WRG4's weakness was noise once they wear and wet performance being just ok. But the wet performance is likely on par with the factory MME tires so most won't notice or know what they are missing compared to leaders in wet performance. Likely that's what has improved with the WRG5 but who knows.

Overall the WRG5 should be a very good tire.
