Just goes to show you that the original one, even as a 1st gen, even with some issues, was a damn good build. Unfortunately, a small handful of problems was disproportionately represented.
No worries, just didn’t want you to think you got a sample. Your use case represents many new MME owners who have never done this mod and using the plug-n-play cable method 1, it seems you would agree it was pretty straight forward.

This discussion doesn’t apply to GTs. All GTs come from the factory with illuminated ponies on the front. That’s what inspired the aftermarket attempts. Those of us without GTs who wanted illuminated ponies.
IIRC, they’re no longer here. Also, for legal reasons, there seemed to be no support available since they pulled the plug on the project.
The original works great as long as you take care of your car and hopefully the diode is reinstalled into the PCB. Taking care of the car most likely involve garaging it and hand washing if possible to avoid weather related deterioration. Most (not all) users who was impacted had PCB failure due to OTA SW update. Unfortunately, the diode was either defective or was compromised and the power surge during OTA update overwhelms the PCB and pretty much renders it useless.That's what I'm worried about. I'm neither a gear head nor a luddite, so I'm not sure whether to jump in or just put it back in the closet where I found it
The construction looks legit, so I am guessing it will work....
