Hello, I just brought my 2021 mach e to the dealer due to a high voltage warning and 4 wheel drive fault which I believe is my second high voltage junction box failure, having already fixed it once, and they're telling me my Borla Active Performance Sound system is voiding my warranty so I have to pay. I installed the system 1 month ago and have had the warning light on for 5 months. Has anyone else had this issue or any other similar warranty issues? I don't know how to proceed. The sound system plugs into the 12 volt battery and into 1 plug under the steering column to get info from the car about what sound to play. Thanks.

If it were me, I'd contact Ford direct to discuss your issues. I'd also be looking for another dealer.
Oh, so you think the dealer itself might be trying something shady? I pass 2 other Ford dealers to get to the one I currently use. Thank you.

”Voiding your warranty” isn’t a thing. Tell them to look up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. And yes, go to a different dealer.

They would have to prove that the speaker is related/the cause of the issue you're having in order to deny that specific claim on your warranty.

It just sounds like this dealer is looking for a reason to not cover it. I agree with the others, try another dealer and if that doesn't work, contact Ford directly. Even @Ford Motor Company here might be able to help in some way.

This, and there’s a line in the sand when the fault which is covered under warranty first occurred.

I wouldn't assume it's the dealer playing games. Ford Motor Corporation isn't exactly an angel when it comes to honoring warranties, and they would be the ones having to reimburse the dealer for any warranty work.

Without knowing more details of what was said/done at the dealership, we can only guess if the dealership is playing games or if the dealership talked to Ford and Ford is playing games.

I seriously doubt that whoever the person is that determined the warranty for the HVJB was voided isn't someone very high up the food chain.
But they might have added some red tape to the process now, unfortunately.

It's so disappointing how easy that is to do these days.

Maybe they thought you had a regular Mustang with a Borla exhaust?

I have had issues with a Ford dealership in the past concerning brake calipers. I had 15k miles on my 150 and the right front caliper froze up and shredded my rotor. Dealer said sorry brakes not covered and I paid over 300 for repairs. I contacted Ford and explained situation and 2 days later dealership called and was issuing me a total refund. It pays to yell sometimes

Thank you for sharing, I tend to not yell, but I've currently got it in me now. Thank you.

Given that Borla installs these on the Shelby Mach-E, which Hertz has 100 of, I'm pretty comfortable saying it's not a warranty-buster.

This is so true. Speaking from someone that has slightly modded my last five new car purchases within one year of ownership (with one being another Ford), they have to prove the mod caused the failure. Some dealerships will not try to even recognize this rule and probably hope you go somewhere else. Thus the key is to find a good dealership that you trust. For both my BMW and Ford modded cars, I ended up becoming friends with people that work at a chosen dealership (mostly through going to car events/shows like Cars and Coffee) for that very reason and have never had a problem, even when they found out a car was modded.

And if it helps, my mods were more performance upgrades, including giving my Bronco "Sport Mode" when the model I have (Badlands) isn't suppose to have it. For my BMWs, they were both chipped to give extra horsepower etc. Knock on wood, never had an issue.
