I don't want to start another "extended warranty: worth it?" discussion, I am just curious if anyone has any insight into how Geico's "mechanical breakdown coverage" compares to an extended warranty and if one is superior/inferior to the other. From where I sit, it looks like the Geico option replicates most/all of an extended warranty's benefits but at a much lower cost. But I have no experience with either and hope someone else can shed some light.

I’d say looking into it (I’m thinking of switching to Geico, we currently have Progressive), the mechanical breakdown coverage is a you pay it first, get reimbursed later. Whereas an extended warranty “should” pay the service center after pay your deductible.
