Ahhh, I thought that was the charge on the car and that ford.com was just behind updating because it never matched up with the app. Never used that page much because I'd just use Vehicle Dashboard or FordPass.

Good to know though!
yeah it's odd that it's under ".....account" and not vehicle dashboard, but it's handy to have, I pretty much check it daily more out of curiosity. In ten months it's never been below 80% and usually 85-95

BC 1.3 update installed last night on my 23.5. Built about mid July’23, logged into dealer about a month later. Car sat until I bought it on March 21. Call it 7 months. (The RDX I had previously was bought by me about 9 months after the build date. The battery was an issue on that car. I finally bit the bullet and paid for a new one. OEM battery was just in spec enough to not be a warranty issue. No issues after the new RDX battery.) The dealer I bought the MME from installed a new 12v battery in the car shortly before I took delivery. I was lucky on that one. I also charged the car at reduced 30A rate from about 76% to 90% last evening which brought the baby battery up to 93% according to ford.com. So far so good.
FWIW, after BC 1.3 update last night, I drove the car 7-8 miles this AM. I just checked ford.com and the 12v soc says 92%. It was 93 % last night. As a WAG I would guess the short drive this morning would not have added more than a couple of % to the 12v soc. Another WAG, I would then guess the BC 1.3 didn’t draw more than, say, 3% from the 12v battery. Could these guesses be wrong, yes, of course they could.

If there are OTAs that are a big drain on the 12v either I haven’t received them or I’ve been lucky that my 12v is healthy and/or new enough that it’s holding up.

I still wonder how long the shelf life is for one of these batteries. Expressed differently, how long can one of these batteries set around before being installed and still be considered “new”?

go to fordpass app > settings > update details to see which update was the culprit.

Reposting from Dan Gearhart from MachE facebook group on a potential solution:

Update 2:
The updated that caused the issue was:
24-PU0301-BLM-PE
After 5 roadside assistance attempts to get my car to the dealership (RSA kept sending the same company that didn’t have the equipment), I took matters into my own hands.
1) drained the 12v battery by basically sending the lock and unlock command from the key fob over and over keeping the computer awake.
2) once the 12v battery was drained, I was able to pop the frunk using the bumper jumpers
3) took the frunk apart and disconnected the 12v battery for 30min to make sure that there was no residual juice in the system (probably could have skipped this)
4) connected the battery and jumped it using the connection points recommended in the user manual
5) immediately opened the door and started the car while the 12v jump pack was still connected.
6) disconnected the jump pack and drove directly to the dealership (12 miles away)
7) had to jump the car while at the dealership because it didn’t charge enough. Drove the car back home but leaving it on for an hour.
—Keeping the window down tonight to make sure I can get in again.
I’ll update again if there are more issues.
Gotta love a workaround! Thanks for posting this. Let us know if the problem persists or is solved now that your battery is charged back up.

It's hard to make use of the 12v SOC on ford.com when we aren't really sure when that value is reported. Does the car report it when it starts? Maybe it sends a report after it's turned off?

I know it reports the value when it tries to install an OTA that requires the car to be off (such as BC 1.3), but does it report the value when it's done installing it? Or only when it starts?

It reports when the car is on, or when a cloud request is sent to the vehicle. It does not update when the car is off. If you want an updated value you need to send a lock or unlock command in FordPass and then refresh the website a minute later (sending this request does wake up the car and uses extra battery).

So if you check it while parked, that will be the value when you last drove and parked the vehicle. Which could be hours or days old if you haven’t driven it recently.

Where are you seeing 12V SOC on ford.com??
Sign in to ford.com. Select / expand “my account” after you hit the menu button. Then select “(your name’s) account”. It is labeled charge level. It does not say LVB or 12v, only charge level. It’s also possible your ford.com may open to your account, mine does.

Interesting. I just sent the unlock command via FP, then refreshed ford.com and see 88% soc reported for the 12v battery. Obviously not the 92 I thought it had.

Lee, do you have a sense of how long one of the 12v batteries can set around as stock before installation and still be considered a fresh, healthy battery?

I got that same update yesterday when we got to a restaurant for lunch. It said only 8 minutes to update and that you couldn't lock the car. When I got in the restaurant I was able to lock the car using ford pass. When we came out it was finished and no problems. I checked the 12V battery this morning and it was at 88%.
YMMV

Only 8 minutes! That’s a lot less than the “up to” 55 minutes I think was indicated by Ford.

Sadly, we don't know for sure if it's related to an update, a specific update, the process of installing an OTA update or what...

It's also very hard to piece this together. I've tried... We have clues, but nothing definite:

It appears to happen to 2023's (both jobs), but it might have happened to a 2024 also.

Some have reported that it happens the morning after an OTA is installed (but not everyone has said an OTA installed the night before. That doesn't mean one wasn't installed...)
This happened to me on 29 June. Update 6.14 was the last one I received, but that was a few days before my lockout happened. For me, it happened around 4:30 in the afternoon, while I was out running errands. My 2023 GT is a 'Job 1,' built around Nov 2022, and I took delivery in Dec 2022. Here in Texas, it is not uncommon for car 12-volts to suddenly die during the summer. Typically they are older than 18 months though....

My dealership worked with the Ford EV department, and the final diagnosis was a faulty battery, which they replaced. There are more nuances to my story, but you can read the full story here: https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/mach-e-gt-not-unlocking….37071/

Good luck!

I was referring to this update from above 24-PU0301-BLM-PE in case you were talking about a different one.

I’m not sure about on the shelf ones. But given Ford says you should disconnect it if leaving for 30 days…I assume the sitting on the lot for months was not optimal.

It is the charge that the battery had the last time the car communicated with the server. If the battery lost the charge while sleeping it will not be reflected there.
