If you ordered a 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT or are thinking about ordering one, we are giving you the flexibility to choose when you want to access the optional Performance Upgrade. This can be selected at vehicle purchase or access it seamlessly via the FordPass app via a one-time purchase for $995 plus tax once you have taken delivery of your vehicle. This means you don’t have to decide upfront if you want to purchase the Performance Upgrade and can activate it whenever you’re ready to boost the performance of your GT.

To activate the Performance Upgrade, simply go to the FordPass app and then navigate to the Connected Services tab. Click on the Performance Upgrade tile. Once you complete the transaction the upgrade will be installed in less than 5 minutes, and you can enjoy all that the upgrade enables. Note, this is non-transferrable to another VIN.

The Performance Upgrade enables 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT vehicle to:
  • Add additional 100 lb.-ft of torque for a total of 700 lb.-ft.*
  • 0-60 mph in 3.3. seconds, which is down from 3.8 seconds without the upgrade. It is also faster than both the Tesla Model Y Performance and the Porsche Macan 4 Electric.**
  • 11.8 seconds at 114 MPH through the quarter mile
Check out this video showing you how to access the Performance Upgrade via the FordPass app:

And, here is the Performance Upgrade in action:

*Calculated via peak performance of the electric motor(s) at peak battery power. Your results may vary.

**Ford test data based on typical industry methodology using 1-ft rollout. Your results may vary. Tested with optional Summer tires.

This part I do understand - but does the upgrade remain unlocked for the next owner? If someone sells/trades in their 2024 GT with the performance unlock, does it stay that way or does the next owner have to pay another $1000 to also have it?

It's VIN-specific, once activated it stays activated.

@Ford Motor Company I have to ask, what about for previous years GTPE owners!?
Hi All – Thanks for the questions! To confirm, the Performance Upgrade is associated with each vehicle’s VIN. It is a one-time purchase and once activated it stays with the vehicle. Additionally, the Performance Upgrade will be first available on the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT because it is built with the required hardware to enable the performance improvements. As a result, prior model years will not be eligible to activate.

Why say “will be first available on 2024..”? That sounds like it may be open to earlier models in the future but that is not the intention.

should read will ONLY be available for 2024 and newer model years.

I'm wondering what the 'required hardware' in the 2024 GT is exactly, and if it could be made available for after-market install in previous model years and trims?

so.... sounds like the hardware changes in 2024 are a combination of better motor, and improved cooling/heating lines for temperature management in motors and battery tray. So, not realistic to expect as a retro-fit upgrade to any previous model years.

I am somewhat surprised by the decision to charge $1000 for a software 'unlock' to access the extra power.

I used to be involved in pricing at GM, and we had much debate about how to price features.
Basically, any feature on a vehicle has a failure rate and a warranty repair cost. OEMs must set aside monies to cover those costs, and cannot realize that income until the warranty expires.
Performance features have the highest failure rate, as purchasers tend to be people who push the systems to their limit. That’s why performance features cost so much. A $10,000 part with a 5% failure rate will cost the company an average of $500/unit.
The rest of the price is meant to recoup the design, development and testing costs of even offering that feature, along with some profit (both for Ford and the dealer).
I’m not privy to Ford’s internal deliberations, but at GM that was the math that went into pricing.
(BTW, it’s to your advantage to buy software-defined features at purchase time when the price is negotiable.)

2024s are also starting with the improved HVBJB.

Like I said (a couple years ago) we could improve pre-2024 MMEs by putting a chill plate under/in the HVBJB... and temperature sensors right on the known hot spots, but would still need a software change to ALLOW more power thru.

ah well, I didn't buy my MME to race it, I bought it to be a 'fun' everyday SUV work vehicle with lots of cargo space, AWD for the back roads I work on and ski season, and decent performance and range.

Make no bones about it, the hardware is capable of at least 700ftlbs and was locked at 600. This is simply a money grab by Ford, which I participated in. It's worth it, but should have been simply included.
