How can I find out if my car has gotten the Tesla update?

Heya,

2021 AWD. I tried charging at two different superchargers this week - found through the Tesla app so should be compatible with my car - but wasn't able to. I got a "charging station fault" and red ring at all the stalls that I tried. And I tried three at each location. So now I'm thinking - maybe my car isn't compatible? Would I be able to verfiy somehow?

Your car should be able to charge, it just may not be able to plug & charge. Did you try initiating the charging session with the Tesla app?

What adapter are you using?

Yes I tried initiating through Tesla, and I'm using the A2Z. Maybe it's a user error.

/edit: I just don't know what I did wrong, honestly.

There is no update required if using the Tesla app.

Activate charger.
Remove charging hose, put adapter on, plug in.

Dumb question - you’re using the Typhoon adapter, not Stella, correct?

It's not a dumb question! But yes, the Typhoon.

Maybe I just didn't slam it in hard enough? It was definitely in tight and I even had problems getting it off after.

Are the chargers you used open to other vehicles - some are not if I understand correctly.

The first gen A2Z adapters were notorious for not seating properly. For the first dozen or so plug in attempts, I wound up putting the adaptor on a 2x4 on the ground and pushing the charging cable into it as hard as I could push. Then I slid the locking button to the locked position. Then I tried as hard as I could to separate the adapter from the charging cable. If I was indeed unable to separate them, then I plugged the whole thing into my MME. Then it would start charging. I was surprised how often I thought I had fully seated the adapter and found that it wasn't locked in place. You just have to keep trying and trying.... or fork over the $215 for the second gen A2Z adapter.

It took me a couple of times to seat the adapter the first time I used it. Seems to be working fine now.

I feel like I should just get an exchange. Of that's really true, that's not a good customer experience.

I do not have one myself but if I remember correctly they work smoothly after a few connections. No real Tesla network in Alaska but my understanding is you can only charge on V3 units and some of the busier sites were not made available to non-Teslas. So you have to make sure the site you go to is available to use. (However that is done!)
