2 Mach-E family. Both have bricked.

Posted about a month ago talking about a bricked 2023 Premium. Today the same thing happened with our 2023 GTPE. Something is up and Ford needs to figure this out.

Both times it’s happened the car shows it running in the app and the location shows sitting at an intersection waiting to turn left. But the car is actually home. That’s the point when the 12v fails apparently. But after arriving home, the car will no longer unlock. Battery won’t jump the frunk because it still has enough power to honk when you use the fob. Just won’t unlock.

The last fix was to replace the 12v battery. I’m waiting on a flatbed to drag this thing to the dealership now, but I suspect the fix will be the same. Both cars are driven daily. What are the odds both had a bad 12v from the factory!?

This is really ridiculous.

Welcome to the forum and sorry you are going through this again. Defective 12v batteries in these seems to be an issue, but 2 in the same household seems unlikely though not impossible. There are many extremely knowledgeable and helpful people on here, hopefully someone will be able to offer some explanations/suggestions. Good luck.

I'd guess there is something specific to your household that is causing 12 V battery drain (PaaK constantly waking up the car, too short of charging sessions and too short of drives to charge the 12 V, third party accessories draining the 12 V, or something). Lot's of information in this forum about managing the 12 V battery.

No accessories. Maybe PAAK is the culprit. But this shouldn’t happen. Not twice.

This is discussed in many other similar threads, but I just don't believe this is a 12V battery problem and more likely a software issue. I feel like the battery drain only happens on some vehicles and may be a symptom and not the actual problem. I had the exact same issue with my 23 GTPE, but the 12V battery was fine. The idea is that disconnecting the 12V battery for a period of time resets the software "solving" the problem at least temporarily. That's what helped for me. When people get their batteries replaced it does the same thing, making it appear the battery was the problem. My $0.02. I've stopped reading the other threads on this due to forum exhaustion so maybe there are others with newer takes on this.

Another possibility with the battery may involve the time between when the car was built, shipped, received by dealer, and sold to/leased by you, and the dealer’s storage conditions and maintenance in storage. It may be that the batteries weren’t defective, rather they may have sat for quite a while in unsold vehicles under less than ideal circumstances. Not to mention the suspicion that an OTA has created some havoc with whatever systems are involved. I know none of this is of any conciliation to anyone going through these problems. I’m offering my non-engineer perspective that there seem to be a lot of moving parts to these problems, and the thought that Ford isn’t just sitting on its collective hands “hoping” for solutions. This is all too important to Ford as an organization for it to be ignoring these things without working hard to identify causes and solutions, IMO.

Good thing the fix (gateway module update) was just released for '23 models today (and likely '24 but I haven't checked any).

After updating your gateway should be revision "-FAS" which is what's needed. I did mine this morning.

Interesting. How can I check that revision number?

While it's very likely that both vehicles experienced exactly the same malady, the 12V AGM appears to be a symptom, rather than the cause.

Or put another way, if you could actually get to the battery, disconnecting the negative cable for a few minutes seems to fix the issue with the car.

Ironically, the malady prevents access to the battery.

Is that update an OTA one?

Not yet it's not. It just showed up in FDRS this morning. When I checked to see if it was queued as an OTA for my car it wasn't, so I FDRS'd it.

It is only Wednesday...they could push it out as a priority OTA in the next few days. We quite often see new MME OTAs show up on Fridays and Saturdays. ?‍♂

And you feel this update is the permanent fix for this issue? I’m curious to read about it.
