It’s so refreshing not having to Stop at a Walmart for a Charge - BUC-EES and Brisket > Walmart pit stops.

I am extremely thankful to FORD / Rivian and Tesla to come to an agreement and to @A2ZEV for getting a quality / reliable Tesla NACS to CCS adapter in time for Summer road trips.

A2Z EV Tesla Supercharger Adapter for Ford - Save 15% / Free Shipping + bundle the A2Z Stellar AC Tesla to J-1772 adapter for $71 additional after discount code "FORD".

The only travel planning I needed to make before I head out was to make sure I had my A2Z and OEM Tesla Super Charger Adapter with me.

I had 0 range anxiety this whole trip and was solely focused on finding all my favorite songs from the past that were re-made in Dolby Atmos Format.

All I had to make is one quick stop at a Buc-ees station with 24 RELIABLE Tesla SUPERCHARGER stations to fuel up on some ELECTRONS for my ride and some Brisket for the humans.

I brought both my Ford / OEM Tesla adapter and my original A2Z Typhoon. I decided to continue to use my A2Z typhoon over the OEM adapter because of honestly how easy it is to hold the adapter and fit it onto the NACS, insert it into the CCS port and then easily remove it from the port / disconnect the adapter.

The Ford adapter is slightly bulky and holding it while trying to disconnect the NACS using the latch is not as user friendly. I honestly think the Typhoon Pro will help resolve both my concerns.

My long term plan is to keep the A2Z Typhoon Pro and OEM Tesla adapter with me at all times in the main cabin. It’s nice to have a backup especially if one adapter is heat soaked in the 100+ degree temps or you by mistakenly drop it / damage it. Guess who dropped their FORD adapter on day 1 :) luckily it’s just scuffed and works just fine. A2Z is easier to hold and disconnect. I haven’t dropped it once.

Might need to get some grip tape as others have suggested on here.

I am able save time by skipping unreliable chargers and instead charge at 24 reliable Superchargers @ 33 cent per kWh with membership.

I’m looking forward to everyone getting to experience road tripping without having to stop at a Walmart every 3 hours.

New orders: Current estimate for A2Z is shipping will take 1 week for the new Typhoon Pro adapter.

Discount promo code “FORD” is still working and free shipping is also available.

You can bundle the A2Z Stellar AC Tesla to J-1772 for $71 additional after discount by using the drop down on the Typhoon Pro page to get both adapters.

It’s nice to have options that’s for sure.

This is what stresses me out. Arriving to an EVgo charging station with 0 free chargers.

Funny, I just discovered the Tesla/ Bucee’s charge station thing. Looking at one near Macon, Ga. Checked the Tesla app this afternoon and saw that all units were occupied with a wait. Too much of a good thing I guess. There is a Mercedes station there as well - might have to check that out.

My boss drives a Tesla and has specifically used the Mercedes at that one because the Tesla is full often.

Have you seen throttled rates with your Rivian? Out west in the heat I always get throttled rates after a few minutes at Superchargers with my R1T. Happened to me this weekend coming back to Phoenix from Las Vegas. Rate drops to 110kw (below 50% SoC) and truck indicates limited by charger. The adapter does not even feel that warm when this happens. I have tested at Magic docks in the winter and never had this issue, but this summer I have never gotten the proper charging curve.

The Buc-ees I've been to have both Tesla (NACS) and Mercedes (J1772) chargers (a bank at each end of the building) and there's always a few of each available. It is nice to have the Tesla option when needed though.

I've been tempted to order an adapter rather than continueing to wait.

I have a question, what is the reason for the "bundle" with both? Are there times when you can't use the CCS1? Does that only work with certain types of Tesla chargers but not all?

It may be a dumb question but I know nothing about the Tesla system and all my public charging to date has been at EA or EVgo.

Hot take: Buc-ees sucks and is way overrated. Also, Walmart is one of the better places for a charging stop because it’s open at all hours and there’s always a bathroom. You can also pick up whatever you might need for relatively cheap. Also usually has some restaurant options in the same parking lot or at least a subway inside as a fallback if nothing else. The downside of the Walmart charging stop isn’t actually the Walmart, but the EA chargers

You need different adapters for CCS (DC Fast Charger) charging than the ones used for J-1772 (L2) charging. The J-1772 adapters would be used if you are at a hotel or other establishment with a Tesla Destination Charger or at a friend's house who has a Tesla Wall Charger.

I got my fastest ever DCFC session from the Mercedes branded ChargePoint chargers at that Bucees.

Not all Buc-ee's are the same exact experience.
I live in a small rural town, just down the road from where Buc-ee's was born. (Lake Jackson TX) They started out as a small convenience store chain that stretched across several small towns in Brazoria county.

Those stores still exist and are far from the scale of the mega-interstate stores that have become the national recognized brand.

I think they both have their place.
And one thing that I have noticed is that Buc-ee's has upped the expectations of the customer enough that lots of convenience stores in my neck of the woods (Texas) now have much nicer restrooms and cleanliness. As well as multiple checkout registers to get you in and out. It's a good thing. :)

If people really only took 5 minutes to refuel on a road trip, then Buc-ee’s wouldn’t exist.

The thing about Buc-ee’s or any other mega fueling station (including DC fast charging) is that they vacuum up all the demand in the area. Travelers will either stop a bit short or stretch a bit longer just to visit to take advantage of a hassle-free refueling session, nice bathrooms, and plentiful food/drinks options.

You are absolutely right and the experience in the older stores is rather different.

On our trip from Maryland to Texas and back earlier this year, towing our 25' trailer behind our Lightning, we hit a lot of Buc-ees as we were now able to charge at Tesla Superchargers. Most were the ubiquitous MegaBeaver stores that have Superchargers. However, one was an older, medium-sized store. They were building a mega store on the same property. The store was the most crowded I've seen and the parking lot was stuffed. Lots of icing of the Superchargers as a result, too.
