I was hoping Ford was going to make a smaller, electric sedan, hatchback, or SUV but it's good to hear they're at least continuing with the Mach-E and moving battery production here.

I'd love something nimbler, with significantly better road handling and significantly more reliable software.
A new hatchback or sedan based on CE1 is highly likely. Ford dealers were shown sketches for an affordable electric Ford sedan at a dealer meeting recently. Now those are just sketches, nothing concrete, but it means Ford is thinking about doing it.

Personally, I'd love a new take on the 90s escort whaletail cosworth, or mustang fox body given an 80s/90s style cyberpunk retro futurism makeover. That would be an interesting product imo.

This sort of shape with that Hyundai concepts surfacing and futuristic lighting would make for a striking and eye catching hatchback imo, and would certainly stand out.

Great. Like we need more boxy non-aerodynamic EVs when the masses really need are sensible commuter and family friendly vehicles at an attainable price. Do Americans really go to Home Depot or hunt deers everyday?

Perhaps Ford realises that they really do not have a chance in hell to compete with foreign brands when it comes to non-truck EVs? Therefore sticking to the last bastion of vehicle segment?
I had so much hope for Ford or GM to step up to the EV plate to take on Tesla years ago. I felt I have bet on the wrong horses.

Well according to this release if the first affordable vehicle off this new CE1 skunkworks platform will be a mid-sized electric pickup launching in 2027 --- then would it be safe to say the next gen MME would be even later?? Or that the second gen MME is not considered 'affordable'?
Probably the second choice. ??

Um, no.

Those two cars don’t really look much alike.

No but that doesn’t stop hundreds of thousands of F150’s that have more than doubled in size over the years from being sold every day to people that literally will never use them as a truck.

Heck people apparently want a 3rd row SUV.

But I’m like 1 of 10 Americans who think a an EV sized fiesta would have been awesome.

Where does that leave the current platform? Will they continue to give us "regular" updates or will it be shifted to a run and maintain mode? I'm assuming FordSync will be a thing moving forward right... right?

Financially, this might be a good time to buy stock since they had a massive dive in stock price after they missed their target late July. By cutting costs in Evs it might make their stock have somewhat of a rebound.

Ford is more of a dividend stock, it’s been bouncing around the same ranges for a long long time.

Larger plug-in hybrids with a 50kWh of battery could make sense for the next ten years of so. If the charging network is ever built out. Even long road trips could have more than half the mileage covered by batteries.

No word on second gen MME in here but USA-produced batteries will make a massive price difference. Sucks that T3 is being pushed back to 2027 but tbh, after seeing Cybertruck specs and real world performance, why rush it?
The Cybertruck isn't the competition. The Chevy and Ram offerings are/wil be.

It doesn’t matter how plentiful DCFC becomes - you’re never going to reach mass adoption by expecting people to stop and charge every 100 miles. Range matters.

SonicBlue - do you suppose that might be why Ford is looking at hybrids for it larger SUVs?

I don’t see anything to this press release that really speaks directly to Sync one way or the other. As long as new MMEs are rolling off the line with Sync, we have nothing to worry about. Eventually, Ford will switch to a Google-powered interface. At that point, we may get a few more years of Sync support. But that clock hasn’t even started ticking yet.

Absolutely. They’re not only cheaper - they alleviate range issues.

I don’t want to go back to gas, even a plug-in hybrid, but I’m also not buying another EV until battery tech increases range and significantly reduces charging time.

It is counter-intuitive when Ford builds boxy inefficient EV trucks with large batteries. There is a Ford Lightning that is permanently parked at our office' charging station. Owner seems to go from one Chargepoint to another to make use of the first free 2hr charging. Legally not wrong. Just bad form in the communal spirit of electricity sharing. Security has now left a note to stop hogging the stations.

Not surprised at all - that EV was rumoured to be slatted for the Oakville Assembly Plant in my neck of the woods, but in July UNIFOR (the union representing the plant workers) announced they'd be building the F-Series Super Duty there instead, and cancelling the CAD $1.8 billion investment in the plant along with it.

I was going to post this when it came out but figured the news would make it's way here eventually...

https://electricautonomy.ca/ev-supp...-oakville-ev-assembly-plant-gasoline-pickups/

Sad. Would have been cool to (maybe) buy an EV made down the road from my house.
