Well it finally happened: car 12v battery is dead

Ford wants $189, plus 18 core recycle, and they’d have to order it. What a joke.

Anybody know the Walmart equivalent that fits?

I paid $240 for my replacement 12V battery at 24 months, so $189 is a bargain. I doubt Walmart has a size that fits.

I’m doing a little research. Any help appreciated.

First, what acknowledgements has Ford made re the LVB problems? I know of recent BLM update that supposedly enhanced battery management, please link to that. Anything else?

Second, way back in 2021, somebody with Ford stated that the LVB is under all that plastic because it should never have to be replaced. If anyone can dig that out, would appreciate.

Mine died last week. Waiting on my order from RockAuto to be delivered today. Once I got the car home I parked it and have been driving our truck. Looking forward to getting it swapped out today.

fingers crossed a jumpstart will get you going and perhaps a new 12v will fix the issue.

Our car was only 3 months old and during a checkup at the dealership, they tested the battery and it failed. I couldn't believe it. Something is strange with all these battery issues .

Never had this issue in over 50k miles.

Charged my car to 90% two nights ago. No issues. Drove my car to work this morning. Ended at 76%. Never received a LVB warning of any sort

Went out to lunch and it is DEAD. I was able to open the door by tapping my code into the door sill, even though the numbers didn’t light up. No screens lit up. Couldn’t even depress the brake pedal. While inside the car, I removed anything I needed and popped the frunk before closing the door again.

Obviously calling roadside service and towing to dealership but why other suggestions appreciated. I am under an extended Ford service plan.

I am not surprised at all if this was the original 12v.... please post how many months you got out of it. Mine lasted 39mo, and died suddenly without any warning, which was why I started this thread:

It's just a weak sign from Ford that there is no indication light of a weak battery. Ford should urgently improve this.
I wonder when ours is giving up and how substitutes are available in Germany / EU

Good information. It would be helpful if the post would include the year and model of the MME
since the vehicles seem to be constantly improved and modified with each successive year.
That way, we'd be able to know if this is a concern for a specific model/year or in general.

I have a 2024 Premium extended Range AWD. purchased last month.

Thank you for the link. I’m getting a new LVB installed on Thursday. Since I’m told I can wait for the service, I’m guessing they’re not going to reset the BMS. I’ll follow those instructions and borrow my husband’s car on Friday morning so I can let it sit for the six hours. I’m at >40 months and 43K miles. Getting new tires (OEM) too.

The dealership just called and they were able to locate a replacement battery. I’m going to pick it up this afternoon and try to install it tonight.

I still plan to take the old battery back to the service center and pursue matters with Ford corporate. These batteries should not be be failing this soon under normal operating conditions. Ford knows they have a problem, which is why they recently issues the BLM OTA update.

Edit: Oops, not the BLM update. That was for entry zones. The battery update was 24-PU0121-FTDI-FX.
