Hello! I'm a 2021 Mach-e4x owner with about 30,000 miles on the clock, still under full warranty. I've been mostly happy with my ownership experience so far.

About a few months ago, one morning I noticed a very loud "Creak" coming from the rear passenger wheel area. It came out of nowhere. The creak happens when I start to move forward or backward, accelerate or decelerate- basically anytime the rear suspension has less downforce or more due to momentum changes. It is very loud. The sound is heard inside and outside- and every time I pull away or up to a location or stop light the loudest "creaaaaak" comes from the back of this otherwise very nice car.

I only drive using one pedal driving, so the brakes are not engaged when this issue happens. The car can be rolling and I start going faster and it will happen.

I brought it to my local Ford dealership who kept it overnight. They "narrowed it down to the brakes," saying that corrosion on them is causing this creaking sound. I've always worked on my own cars, whether it was oil changes, tires/wheels, brakes, wiring, etc- I know my way around a car. I asked the lead tech why they thought it was a brake issue when it's clearly a suspension issue and the brakes don't engage for the problem- and I was told "that's what we're going with, we'll start there."

I find it fairly annoying and almost dishonest to the customer that my vehicle, still under warranty, has this extremely loud suspension creak, and the one place that we are going to start to try to fix it is a $700 fix out of my pocket for a part my car doesn't need. I've gone to this dealer and usually had a good experience, and I prefer going there as they offer loaner cars while the car is in the shop.

I am hoping to get assistance from Ford Corporate @Ford Motor Company , as well as other people who have had similar issues. This car is a new product by Ford, and these issues that arise shouldn't be passed onto the consumer, especially when the issue isn't related to the fix. I have attached a video showing the issue from different angles.

Anyone with similar stories or fixes- I'd be grateful to hear from you.

Thanks!

It’s your wheel bearings.

Mine developed that noise on one side then whilst parts were on order the other side started creaking.

Wheel bearings were changed which cured it ?

Spent about an hour with my master tech, got him lying under rear of car (trusting fool?) while I rocked car back & forth rotating wheel in Park position with parking brake off and it creaked like an old bastard!

Bear in mind this is a time when Stang was out of warranty on mileage but would be dealt with as warranty claim because I had mentioned a transmission issue before expiry.

We thought it was driveshaft at first but they knew of some form of washer in the wheel bearing assembly likely to cause this sound.

We decided to start with wheel bearing on the side originally creaking and as these sort of things are the only things likely to wear, I said I’d pay to have the other side not (yet) creaking changed as it was only likely to fail soon.

Other side started to creak so both sides got changed under warranty, happy daze!

Get your car over to Sandicliffe Ford in Naddimghaim UK!

I’ve noticed a similar sound on my 2021 GT lately, but not to that extent yet. I am up at ~110,000 km so much more milage than you, and was honestly expecting something to come up sooner or later so this is no surprise really.

@Teslaeata did you happen to get part numbers from your dealership? I would like to try and look it up if possible to replace it myself.

Not sure how part numbering compares non UK.

I didn’t get any paperwork with part numbers etc because they were changes under warranty.

Got a repair estimating system here which shows the GT and my RWD Premium part numbers are same and are same for both sides - 2602292

The bearing and hub each side come as an assembly.

Ā£153.80 + tax each here in UK.

Thank you for this! I am communicating with Ford now about the issue. I will update this when it's fixed!

Well, Unfortunately what I feared would happen from Ford is now happening.
I am completely unsure of what the purpose is of the "Customer Relationship Center" at Ford. This is the kind of answer I got after @Ford Motor Company gave them my information.

"Good afternoon, I have followed up with the service advisor *redacted* at the dealership regarding your concern and the noise is stated to have come from the back brakes and rotors and due to the concern being maintenance related it is not covered under warranty. The dealer states the parts are still on back order and if you would like to continue to repair the parts would need to be ordered with the parts department.

I responded with a lengthy email, posts from this forum, the video itself... and instead of Ford looking into this from their end, which genuinely seems like a quality issue- they sent me this response:

"Good afternoon, you can always have a second opinion at any local ford dealership for the concern if you disagree with the dealer diagnosis."

How is Ford not recognizing that there are inconsistencies across its service centers, and that a very, very obvious cause of this issue has nothing to do with brakes? And that not all service centers have loaners for cars in for warranty repairs?

I'm about to go to my state's Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. I'm beyond floored that Ford would ever do this to a customer with a car under full warranty. I went from Lexus to Ford. Starting to wonder if that was a massive mistake.

Have you tried another dealer?

Hi OP, I'm wondering if the dealer found a solution to your suspensions creaking noise. I'm experiencing a very similar issue coming from the front passenger wheel area, especially when going over bumps and irregular terrain. Dealer change the strut and strut mount (1st visit) and cleaned the battery rail (2nd visit), but the creaking noise came back. I'm suspecting is one of the ball joints.

Thanks!

Wheel bearing? I didn’t think my rear creaking upon take-up of drive and going onto overrun could have been wheel bearings but it eliminated the creaking.

I have an appointment at the dealer and will suggest the wheel bearing based on your experience. Thanks for the response, we love the car but the creaking noise is annoying and want to get it resolved while on warranty.

Have you resolved this issue? My '21 has started to make same exact noise from rear passanger wheel area. From my experience, wheel bearings have differrent simptoms when they go bad. Was this really a bearing?
