I'm in the market for my first EV. I currently drive a Ford Fusion Sport that I love, but it's starting to need some expensive repairs after 100k miles.

I like the sporty feel of driving a sedan over an SUV, so I originally have been test driving Tesla model 3 performance and Lucid Air Touring. I would also look at Audi S6 etron, but it's not out yet.

However, the Model 3 looks ugly to me and way too common in my neighborhood, so I've been trying to stay away from that.

I've been idolizing the Lucid for years now, looks beautiful with the stealth package. But when I drove it, it didn't feel like a $100k car to me (or even $80k with no options). The steering wheel was creaking. Things that are standard on the Mach E cost an additional $5k on the Lucid (lane centering). The visibility out the front wasn't good for tall people unless you spring another $5k for the panoramic glass roof (which looks silly with the visors). And the clamshell trunk opening is awkward. But my wife and kids loved it and want me to get it.

So since I love my Fusion, I thought I'd try the Mach E GT. I was happy with it. I wish it drove a little more sedan and a little less SUV, but the interior was much nicer than my Fusion and it's much quicker. It felt better built than the creaking Lucid. Obviously not as luxurious, but not that far off. Only negative was I felt like my head was really close to the roof (I'm 6'2") when I sat in the back seat, so the Lucid has a better back seat. But getting in and out is easier than the Lucid and I will like the utility of the cargo space/ trunk.

I know there probably aren't many people cross shopping these two very different models, but I went in thinking Lucid and coming out thinking Mach E GT. I think you get much more for your money with the Ford. Better value. Best HP per dollar.

I still have some reservations about going back to an SUV. This would be so much simpler if Ford made an electric Fusion (or any electric sedan). I'm planning on not buying until November, so I still have some time to think about it.

Hopefully, I'll get to post a pic of my rapid red GT soon.
I've had my Mach e for just over 2 years. It's, hands down, the best car I've ever owned.

You haven’t described your use-case which might help guide you to a choice. I leased a new 2024 Premium 4Xt in July and absolutely love it. But ours will likely not be used for long distance trips, and I have a level 2 charger in my garage. So its relatively unimpressive DCFC rate of 150 KW wasn’t a factor and I’ll likely never have to use a public charger. Those factors eliminated the primary advantages Teslas have from my consideration. Tesla is primarily a software company who has managed to produce more-than-acceptable hardware (cars) that for many years suffered from poor build quality. Ford produces excellent cars with more-than-acceptable software, cars that are desirable as cars because of way better exterior and interior styling as well as excellent performance. Ford also gives its customers what they want instead of what it thinks they should have to live with or without; things like traditional physical controls customers are used to, Homelink garage door openers and Apple/Android Carplay. Musk has decided for you that you don’t need those things and that you should learn to live without them. Lastly, and I know this is subjective, but I didn’t want to drive just another one of the frog-faced eggs that are so common nowadays as to have become completely ignorable.
All that said, if you need to drive long distances, the faster charging rates and seemless use of Tesla’s charging network might tip the scales. They are excellently engineered cars, just not ones I would want to spend much time driving.

That's pretty much how I feel about Tesla too. I eliminated them early even though the car was a fun drive too. I'm really between the Lucid Touring and the Mach E GT. I don't do many road trips. And when we do, we currenly take my wife's Lexus RX 350 because it has a great back seat for the kids. Even if I get a Lucid with the better range and charging speed, I feel like the family would still vote for the Lexus on road trips. It's back seat is still roomier than the Lucid.

So pretty much 40 to 50 miles a day communing to work and back and driving kids to sports. I coach softball and have lots of gear in the trunk and that Lucid trunk just looked awkward for that. I hate to pass on my dream car because of that since I dont know how much longer I'll be coaching, but practicality makes a big difference. Plus, maybe I give them a few more years. Looks like reliability still isn't up to standards.

How about service and software updates? Ford has a much larger network of dealers although I have heard that EV competence varies widely. Lucid on the other hand does only their own EVs so support should be more consistent and (hopefully?) better. Then there’s the possibility of some new EV companies going belly-up as the industry shakes itself out (much like early car companies did in the 1930’s-1950s when then were once more than 750 manufacturers). Might Lucid become such a casualty leaving its customers stranded? One would think Ford a safer bet on this count……….

I do think their technology and deep pockets from Saudi fund will keep them around, but I've certainly thought about that as a big bet I'm making.

Closest service center is 45 minutes away (downtown Chicago), but they do provide mobile service and take the car there themselves if they can't fix it mobile. Whereas I have 3 Ford dealers 15 minutes from my house. One of them hopefully will be EV knowledgeable.

if you don't care about software, then go for 2024 GT, It has better suspension compare to other trims

Get the car that most excites you to want to drive. If budget isn’t much of an issue, then just remember it’s only expensive if you don’t use it.

+1 on MME being a wagon not a SUV. The MME has lousy ground clearance and no roof rails.

Lucid would be fun cuz it’s so rare and cool looking. The 2024 MME GT hits a lot of the right notes on both looks and performance, especially if you’re just gonna daily commute the thing.

I road trip my GT and wish I had the range & charging speeds of the Lucid but I make do.

Maybe I just like to be different. There's 3 or 4 Lucids in my employee parking lot at work and half the cars are Teslas. One Mach E I sometimes see, but not often.

I think having all that power without looking too flashy appeals to me.

The ride is harsh especially for rear seat passengers. I don't care what other members say the suspension on the GT is punishing. The MME GT is not a Touring sedan like the Lucid. It is a CUV with a sport tuned suspension.

The Lucid does not necessarily have faster charging either. Voltage matters and on 400v systems the Lucid charges at an abysmal 50kwh which is much slower compared to the MME.

And honestly, as often as I hear about the "lousy ground clearance" on the Mach-E, I often wonder what ground clearance is on their other car(s)? ??

Neither of my other cars, and a Mach-E is a car, even come close to the Mach-E ground clearance. Admittedly they are both sports cars, but the Mach-E ain't no slow poke.

LOL my MME is in the middle, clearance-wise. The Blazer is waaaayyy taller. The T/A is lower. ?ā€ā™‚?

I came from a Subaru to the GT.

The 2024 GT has Magneride which by all accounts has the most comfortable suspension of any MME when in Whisper. My ā€˜21 GT has conventional suspension and it’s made me re-evaluate my life choices.

After close to two years of ownership I'm well aware of how the suspension behaves on a GT equipped with the magenride suspension. I stand by what I said.

It is a lot smoother ride than my old 2006 Mustang GT I had before it. It is also a quicker car. I would rather be in it than my wife's Explorer also.
