When shopping for my Mach-E recently -- and frankly for several cars before this -- I knew much more about the cars than any of the salesmen (and women) I talked to. After one unimpressive dealer visit my wife remarked to me that if she were selling cars and trucks she would go out of her way to learn everything and to read everything there was about those cars and trucks. I still laugh to remember the salesman for our 2023 Mach-E kicking under the rear bumper to get the liftgate to open... time and time again.....

Thank you Phil.

as for Rick. I sell cars, not Tesla chargers.

like anyone else, I only know what I am familiar with and - while I have tried most of the available charging companies- I have, still, never used any Tesla chargers

Way to make people feel welcome in our little group. Frankly, offense taken.

like Phil said, it was not obvious that there was a built in adapter and - in addition- the only vehicles there were Teslas.
Scottie, glad you found your answer! And all of us here are not ready to bite your head off for an innocent question. This is an awesome resource to learn about Machs and EVs in general.

The navigation system didn’t even show that charger,:

I also have an issue with the Superchargers no longer existing in the Ford Navigational system-at least in my work area of Southwestern Pennsyslvania. Maybe it is time for the salesperson to dig deeper into Ford and ask if something is going on with Superchargers leaving Ford navigational system.

No Tesla SCs have never appeared in the nav. Ford has said for months that the Tesla SCs will not show in the navigation until Ford sends out a software update, which Ford says will happen later this year. We only have 2.5 months left in the this year, so we shall see if Ford actually delivers the update.

The Tesla Superchargers with magic Docks did appear in my Ford navigational system. My car did precondition itself while heading for this location earlier this year. This location: Freeport Rd just off the Pa Turnpike and Rt 28 in Harmar Township (Pittsburgh area) did not appear in my Ford Navigational system a week ago Sunday when traveling thru the area.

The same thing happened with me, one lady was like “i dont know that answer to that but if you find out let me know” Most of what I know is from doing my own research by reading articles and forums like this.

Ok. Well you didn't specify Magic Dock locations, but sure fine. For clarity to anyone reading this, the non-Magic Dock NACS supporting Tesla SCs do not appear in the nav. Those are the majority of the SCs NACS users have access to. Those will not appear until Ford provides the software update later this year.

It's wild that sales reps are out here selling these vehicles with very little knowledge of the vehicle or the basics of where and how to charge the vehicles. I think that I take my job seriously. If I take my job seriously that means that I am knowledgeable about what I do. I don't know every single in and out but I know enough to be helpful to my customers. You don't have to memorize every little detail. Make some notes for yourself in the notes app on your phone. At a minimum, it sort of boils down to taking pride in what you do. I would want to be the person known on the sales floor as the person to go to if you have questions about an EV. Some have lost that sense of pride I guess.

Why would they know much about another company's charging infrastructure? I doubt Tesla shares much either.

What they should know is where you can charge. That's a basic thing for a EV buyer to know. What they should know is how to look in the Ford Pass app and find charging locations and see what the availability is at each location. Shouldn't a customer know how to do this? This is table stakes friend. If you can't do that, then what's the point? You're doing a disservice to the customer if you don't show them that function before the customer walks off the lot.

No one is saying that they need to know the difference between a V3 or V4 Tesla SC. But they better darn well know how to find a place to charge.

I have never had a customer ask about charging beyond an explanation of the different charging levels / speeds.

Ford has not provided me - or anyone, to the best of my understanding- with any training on the Tesla chargers. And, while I have gone out of my way to try each different “brand” of charger in my area - today would have been my first supercharger experience- had I only known.

The navigation system didn’t even show that charger, I found it using PlugShare. I assumed that I would need a NACS to CCS adapter and, not having one I never even tried Tesla.

So, lesson learned

In the end it worked out fine EA charger was super slow today (only 20-24kwh) but I got what I needed to get to my appointment later with enough to get to the charger at work (that I normally use). Got to use a few more of my original charging credits from EA and had a nice lunch at the mall food court.

I just might swing by Lowe’s again on my way back home later today. Just to experience the Tesla chargers. In case anyone does ever ask.

This. I can confirm, attest, swear, to the fact that Ford has not apprised their sales staff of the details that would be required to educate new customers on the impact of the partnership with Tesla on charging, and convenience of using the upgraded chargers that include the magic dock.

I just got back from my first roadtrip (of this year) and charged at the Covington, GA Tesla station and used my Ford provided adapter.....without even realizing until this morning that the chargers I was using had magic docks.

You learn something everyday.

Again, that's on the dealers. If the CEO of Ford has been pushing the benefits of having Tesla SC access for many months and the sales reps at various dealers still don't know about the SC access or how to explain the benefit of said access, then I shall say again that is a problem and one that doesn't help the customer.

Telsa chargers appear in the nav systems on my '23 MME and my Lightning as well as the Public Charging app, and once you select the charger you want to go to from the list in PC, it hands-off that as a destination to the nav system so that pre-conditioning will work. (EDIT: it has been reported that preconditioning does not work using nav, but I have no way to know whether it does or not while driving).

No problems so far.

Both vehicle's Sync levels are at 1270, and I'm sure it makes a difference whether your Sync is up to that current level or not. Previous revisions may not have had those capabilities.
