I have an extended battery model that has 5K miles. When I first bought it, at a 90% charge it estimated mileage at 270. Now at 90% charge it only estimates 257 miles. Is this loss normal?

Many threads on this. It is not loss - just the results based on your driving experience and climate, etc.

So, how many miles it provides at full charge is impacted by weather and driving habits?

I'm not talking how many miles I actually get after its charged and I start driving. I realize that highway driving and fast accelerations and cold temps impact the actual miles it will provide.

I'm talking about its range at charge. It should still estimate 270 miles once I unplug it even if it does not provide that due to driving conditions.

I'm not sure why you assume the range estimate should never change when you unplug it? The whole concept of the displayed range is that it's an estimate based on a number of factors at the time. Doesn't mean it won't sometimes be the same - but it also means that it's likely to fluctuate one way or another and probably back again.

The GOM is always tuning based on the factors you listed. 80% at 72F will be different than 80% at 25F, as an example.

OK, thanks. I didnt realize that. I assumed that the charge range was a constant and not variable, like how many miles you actually get is variable.

They call it a GOM or guess o meter. It varies based on how you drive, weather, etc. check out some threads. I live in Alaska and mine drops down to about 170 in the winter and back up in the summer. If you reset your driving history it will go back up to the higher number.

Your percentage of charge is your “constant”.
Your range may vary, and your guess-o-meter does its best to try to predict your range based on all the parameters in it’s possession. Manage the variables you can control to extend range.

... no it should not estimate 270 miles. It should estimate what you will actually get based on your driving habits (e.g. speed) and temperatures (lower temps significantly reduce range).

Sigh, another GOM thread, almost as many of these as the NACS adapter threads....:)
Yes, and as the weather cools off for most of the country, we will see more and more of "why is my range so low" complaints.

Depends how you use it and the conditions in what I find.

I’m 99,361 miles and a 575 mile day out with no room for driving sympathetic for range like yesterday in temperatures between 8degC and probably 15degC returns me a rang of c250 miles on an ER RWD with HVB SoH of 94%.

How you drive is everything.

Speeds around 75mph for the most part with heat & AC use gets you 250 range, slower speeds, heated seats, a coat gets you more.

Here is what is really odd about "another GOM" thread:

ICE car owners have had a GOM for decades: Distance to empty.
It never bothered them at all. You always knew it was an estimate, and based upon driving conditions (how you drove, city/hwy, hills, etc)

.......bot now the GOM is blowing a new EV buyers mind?!?!?!?

Same as it ever was.
