My wife's 2023 Premium has the issue where when the car is locked and you push the liftgate button it just pops and doesn't open all the way unless you press it again. I've read in other threads that there's a module firmware update that fixes this but our dealership appears to be clueless on it. The had the car for a whole day and their answer was just to hit the button twice.

Does anyone have any specific document we can cite to help get this fixed, or is there any way to get this fix over the air?

Thanks!

You apparently haven't received this ota update, 23-PU0630-RGT-PLO . How long have you had the car? You will need to wait for this update to fix it. It was about 6 months for us.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Thanks. We've had the car for a year and have received several OTA updates but none that mention or fix the issue.

Yeah I've had my 23.5 for a year and I still haven't gotten the OTA update, I'm guessing I'll have to have the dealer do it when I take it in for rotation

It seems as though we have to try a different dealer and see if they are more on the ball than our local one. Ford tells me there's no way they can force the update OTA.

1. You'll need to be a little more clear here. Did Ford (the company) tell you this or did your dealer's service center tell you this?

2. A service center can do module updates. They cannot do or force OTA updates. There may be a module update to fix the problem but the service center cannot run 23-PU0630-RGT-PLO. It is an OTA update.

I"ve got the same liftgate issue on my 23.5. I never got the OTA to address it. If I take the OTA code to the dealer, can they look up in the system to see what module update applies?

If you have one of a very few, truly helpful and knowledgeable dealerships in the country. Most dealers won't know what modules that OTA implements and their service people would neither know how to look it up nor be given the time to do so.

A customer service person from the Ford BEV support team told me this.

Since my local service center is clueless, I was hoping Ford could push the update to the car. Unfortunately this isn't possible. The recommendation from Ford customer service is to try other dealers. I have yet to pursue this as the nearest other dealer is about an hour drive away.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same issue and I'd like to be able to tell the dealer what they need to do.

Not yet. We've got the 30K service next week and will be requesting they try again to look for an update for the liftgate module.

I just love this bull from Ford. If it's a fix in an OTA you could wait years if it ever comes or pay your dealer hundreds of dollars to fix something that Ford says that the dealer should fix under warranty. Except Ford doesn't give the dealer warranty money for this because they already have an OTA process for the fix.

I think it's time for Ford to admit their tech sucks and so do their warranty practices for support.

I guess this is why I keep seeing more and more Teslas in my neighborhood than ever.

An overdue update:
After taking the car to the other, more distant dealer, the issue is finally fixed. It was not a great experience as they needed the car for two whole days for the 30K service, wiper motor recall, and then they had to fix a door sensor that failed during the time they had it. This is what the service receipt says:

VERIFIED CUSTOMERS CONCERN. CHECKED OASIS FOR TSB'S, FSA'S AND SSM'S NONE PRESENT AT THIS TIME. PERFORMED A VISUAL INSPECTION, NO OBVIOUS CONCERNS FOUND. PERFORMED A BODY/CHASSIS/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELF TEST, NO DTC'S PRESENT.

CHECKED OPERATION OF THE LIFTGATE, NOTICED WHEN OPENING THE POWER OPEN FUNCTION (WHEN VEHICLE IS LOCKED AND APPROACHING VEHICLE DOES NOT FUNCTION ON THE FIRST TRY AND WOULD NEED TO PRESS THE LIFTGATE SWITCH A SECOND TIME. CHECKED FOR A LATER CALIBRATION FOR THE RGTM AND FOUND A LATER CALIBRATION IS PRESENT. UPDATED THE RGTM SOFTWARE THEN CHECKED FOR PROPER OPERATION. THE LIFTGATE OPERATES PROPERLY AT THIS TIME.
