Ford Mustang Mach-E Why would my tires be wearing out after only 20K miles? IMG_2915

Thoughts on why my tires might be wearing out so fast? This is how all of them look after 20,000 miles. I do drive spirited on twisting hilly roads, would this be the cause?

These are my original tires on my 2021 Premium, i.e., Michelin Primacy A/S tires. They are rated at 55,000 miles.

I'd be curious to see the inside shoulder too - to see if the wear is even or not. Are they all like this or just one or two?

If the wear is not even across the tire, it could be an alignment issue - though I'd expect to see more inside wear than outside. I'd expect that in most cases, anyway.

How good are you about maintaining proper tire pressures? I see you're in LA, so you don't really have seasonal fluctuation to worry about - but do you regularly check them at all (and I mean with an actual gauge, not the TPMS)?

Tire pressure maintenance, rotation every 10,000 miles per manual, ...

spirited driving and twisty roads makes sense. My select AWD needed new tires at 30k miles. Lots of lights, twists, the occasional power slide through a corner. I assumed mine would wear out quick, but since its the only maintenance and so much fun I accept the quick wear! I replaced with Hankook ION EVs, they are up to 10k miles already havent had them rotated so not sure how fast they are wearing. Also after 2.5 years I am driving it SLIGHTLY less aggressive, and my wife has been putting on more miles, so guessing these will last longer.

hey Ark, our car will hit 3 years next week with 33,368 and our tires will need to be replaced in a couple of months.

Some of the stuff that impacts excessive tire wear:
  1. spirited driving
  2. running lower psi
  3. tire maintenance neglect (psi check, rotations)
  4. tire type
  5. vehicle weight
  6. roads (our socal roads suck)
  7. im sure there's more to the list that im missing.........

The cracking has me thinking the heat cycling has been the culprit. These aren't performance oriented tires. There could also be an issue with leeching out the flex additives in the rubber...what are you cleaning your tires with and what dressing do you use as a tire shine?

Crystal ball says.... Lead Foot.

These cars are effortlessly fast from stops compared with whatever most of us have driven before. You don't realize it, but putting that power down costs tread life.

My wife's prior car was a Prius... it could keep up with traffic, but it could never keep up with her in the MME and I am noticing, she is becoming more aggressive accelerating from stops as time goes on... it's the new normal.

20K and the wear bars are showing for us.

In general OEM tires are never the same quality as the ones you buy from a tire store. Never understood why, but you could probably buy a brand new set of identical tires from a reputable tire shop and get twice the life. Maybe it’s how long they sit around.

Maybe it's the price negotiation done by the car company that requires the tire company to put less quality into the tire... Nothing to do with storage, go read the date on a new car's tires.

My wife ended up racing a young guy off a light, she had never raced a car in her 25 years of driving. torque is addictive, honestly it should be used more in advertising EVs:

"Want to accelerate more but not annoy people with sound, not draw cops attention, not burn up your tranny or drivetrain? Then get an EV, happiest when abused!"

This.

OEM tires typically are made with softer rubber than the tire manufacturers official counterpart. This is done to allow for a softer ride.

Further, the tire inflation guidelines are for best ride, not longevity.

Hard to tell without looking at the entire surface of the tires. Just from the photo, it looks like you sometimes corner hard, which would explain the shredded appearance of those outboard blocks. Do the inboard edges look like they have a similar tread depth? If so, the middle blocks look like they have a deeper tread depth so I would suggest higher tire pressure. If not, the cornering is exposing a camber issue in which the outboard blocks are getting worn. That would mean that the suspension needs to be decambered. We need more information though. Ideallly, I would like to see thermal readings after a spirited drive too. ??

I came here to say "You have an AWD GT" but I see you have a Premium. I'm at 15k miles on my Premium RWD and my tires have plenty of life left. If those are original 2021 tires I'd guess age and possibly alignment have something to do with it.
