Hi! So, i have owned my 2023 Mustang Mach E for almost 2 years now. I absolutely LOVE IT but I recently got into an issue this week.
On a Monday evening, in an empty parking lot, where all my car had to do was move forward to park itself, and behind me was two poles with a chain and a crossed section on the floor that marks pretty much no parking, my friends asked if my car parked itself. I said, "I think so, here's a button for it, I've never pressed it, should I try it?"
"YES!!" So, I just pressed the button once (not holding it down) and my car started moving fairly swiftly backwards by the two poles and crashed into them and the chained fence and made a huge crash sound and I slammed on my brake so fast. I was so confused since my car has all of the sensors in the world and I got scratches and dents on my bumper and passenger door from the chains. My car didn't make any warning, or stop or sound that it was backing into something. I've done more research and found that the 2023 does not have park assist, but definitely that button on my car states otherwise because it didn't give me any option to move anywhere. It just started moving. I called the Ford Customer Relations number and they advised to take it to the Ford Dealership and they will have to run a diagnositc. They have ran it for about 2 - 3 days now and extended my loaner. I took it in on Wednesday. My issue is, is that when they called me Friday, they said my car is good to go, they didn't find anything wrong. I asked what do I do from here because these dents and scratches was due to my car moving swiftly by itself and seeming the cars sensors does not work with this feature and the service advisor told me my car does not have park assist and i said then what is that button in the middle i pressed marked "P" and made my car move then? He went to check and finally found the button I mentioned after much advisement on where to find it and my car is still in the dealership running more tests. Can anyone please help me as to what I should state to them? I feel like its really unfair for me having to pay to get my scratches and dent fixed when my car has a button advised to park assist and completely moved automatically and scraped and scratched my car.

I just looked and my 2024 Mach E GT and it has 2 buttons with a P on them on the center console. One is the parking brake and I am not sure what the other does since I have not pressed it to find out but the car does not have parking assist that I Know of.

Sorry, but this story is nonsense.

Even if you had active park assist (which you apparently do not) it is a multi step process and your vehicle would not immediately move after you press the button.

Wow!

I think those are Hyundai commercials that might have been misleading?

Where was your foot?
I would never have been able to believe/trust in whatever that P button can do the first time I pushed it.

Good luck with the hopefully very minor body work. You will forever have a great story to tell. :)

That’s good to know that that is the actual process of active park assist because what you said my vehicle would not do, is what happened when I pressed the park assist button.

Have fun proving it. I don't believe you. That's not meant as an insult. You may even think that's what happened.

There are so many stories of unintended acceleration/movement, and almost every time it ends up being some kind of driver error despite said driver blaming the vehicle.

Tbh, I don't think you're going to get this fixed without coming out of pocket. You pressed a button not knowing what it does and something happened......it's called FAAFO and you found out. Sh*t happens and that's what insurance is for. Send me the VIN and I can pull the build sheet to see if park assist is something your car has or not. However, whether it has it or not, I don't think you will be able to put this incident on the dealer to fix for free.

were you on an incline? Are you sure it wasn't the parking brake you released?

@Isabellags07, your 2023 doesn't have Park Assist. It was eliminated during the 2022 model year. Widely discussed on this forum.

The button still exists, it will bring up public parking locations I believe.

If you had Park Assist, the proper way to use it would be to read your manual, not ask your friend whether you should push the button or not. It is a multi-step process, during which the driver keeps their foot on and above the brake pedal.

Thank you Rick. I understand reading the manual prior to pressing that button, so if I did read it and my car did not react as the manual stated, what then? I have looked up videos on previous years of Mustang Mach E park assist and saw that it was a multi-step process. The multi-step process was not on screen when I pressed that button, it reversed and tried to maneuver in between two poles and a chain swiftly. Now, it seems as though my vehicle should not have this feature based on it being discontinued in ‘23 models and after. It seems as though this button in my middle console should not be working AT ALL.

No I was on a completely flat and open parking lot and I had the brake (hold) feature on my car, so it was stationed securely and upon pressing the button it moved automatically.

No, as I said, I believe it brings up public parking locations.

Thanks! They’re working with Ford. I don’t think my dealership should pay for it but I do think Ford should. Based on videos I have seen of park assist, my car did not operate in that way whatsoever. I will see what they say on Monday.
