So the most recent work was on the 18th (according to FDRS) showing they did a powertrain update and then they ran the FDRS tool routine to reset the TCU (telematics modem).

They used FDRS on the 19th but didn't do anything (no programming or diagnostics that I can tell).

You currently show a DSM (drivers seat module) and a BCM (body controller) as the only two updates in your available list, and neither of those would be related to this problem.

And since they've reset your TCU it's now showing as "Not Authorized" so the car isn't reporting it's status to the cloud and no useful info can be gained by checking the connected vehicle tab in PTS until they get your TCU reauthorized (would then show as Retail Authorized). The original TSB procedure came out to repair corrupted data in the GWM, APIM, or TCU...and it looks like in your case they've already replaced the APIM and are now focussing on the TCU.

I'm glad the FSE is involved. The good news for the shop doing the work is they can use the warranty code "OTADMG" to get this paid for under warranty...even on an out of warranty car.
would you believe that my car still isn't sorted

they had to order a new control unit which took 3 months to arrive. they finally got it and fitted it today and they can't get it working.
can you shed any light looking on your side @Mike G ?

Wow. I've heard about some of the MME's not getting updates but I've never even heard of 1.7.1. If you still don't have it, I doubt that you'll ever get it.

No....you have to get in the MME wayback machine for this one.

1.7.1 was the OTA from back in the fall of '21 that ended up corrupting data so that the APIMs couldn't be updated unless the special 'side-load' procedure was used (TSB 22-2150 which later begat 22-2404).

Since it was a PITA to actually do this procedure, and it often didn't work, many shops just replaced the APIM to fix the problem.

Many shops apparently just didn't want to deal with it at all, and some owners ended up at the end of their warranty with this problem. So what's the big deal? APIM won't update. Right? Well, the big deal is that due to dependency requirements for other modules...not being able to update the APIM meant that the car wouldn't get other updates either.

I don't see in FDRS where they have actually tried to 'provision' your TCU (if that's what got replaced).

In the session history in FDRS for your VIN there are entries where somebody looked up the VIN in Connected Vehicle in PTS....but there's nothing in the FDRS history where somebody went in and did a PMI to incorporate the new TCU into your car's system, and then run the provisioning tool to tell it to connect to Vodafone (UK provider).

I thought they had a FSE involved with this? Where's the engineer?

Here's the tools normally associated with replacing a TCU:

And here's the list of currently available software for your car showing in FDRS:

Yes there is a FSE - who apparently spent the whole day yesterday trying to get it to work and has now gone back to technical about it ..

Well I'm glad there's an engineer on the case at least. Let us know when it gets sorted.

So car went in again, and seems I’ve finally had my first OTA update. Although it was only 1.7.1

so i don’t know where I am to go from here, will the car update again now that it’s successfully received its first update ?

That was my experience. Once 1.7.1 hit it will OTA From there for whatever OTAs they’ll allow.

That's great!!! Yes, more OTA's will come in, but the process is unpredictable and unreliable. There is no way to know when the next one will be sent.

Well fingers crossed then

can’t believe it took over a year for them to sort it. Absolutely mad like what is going on there.

Trust me....you are not alone. Now that these 2021's are coming off lease and/or being traded in and reintroduced into the used car/truck market, I am seeing new cases on an almost daily basis on the F150 forums.

And 2.1.1 or 2.6.0 I think are next. It should come in the next few days, but it may be a while before you get the first off the 3.x.x updates after that.

Well, I would definitely be concerned if I still had SYNC4 v4.0.21174 on my car at this point. So yeah.

You need to call the Ford team there and ask them to take a look at what's going on. Nobody should still have a version of Sync from 2021 at this point.

Maybe they can look at that while they're doing your FSA 24B42 powertrain updates......
