Especially as there always seems to be a rivian charging and as long as the non teslas stack up right so it is one lost space for the station instead of one per stall....
that is true. but most of the superchargers i ever went to when i had a tesla were absolutely packed. in that situation you’re probably not charging a non tesla. the problem is that all the times i pulled into those oversubscribed SCs i really needed a charge.

the huge supercharging sites were usually pretty sparsely used though so those would be fine.

I hope that Ford never moves the charge port to either extreme end of the car, especially not to the more vulnerable corners. ?‍♂?
Move it to the right front exactly opposite its current location. 2 stall problem solved.

previously i had posted asking about MME alternatives, but i think i decided to just buy another mach-e now, in case the tariffs are real. i'm assuming it might be quite expensive to replace when my options loan ends in december 2025. could be wrong about this, of course, and not totally committed yet.

i understand that the NACS port is coming to the 2025 MY mach-e, but what about the port placement? it seems like unless they move it to the back of the car you're going to have a hard time charging at busy superchargers and/or end up in fistfights with angry tesla owners when you're blocking 2 spots to charge. anyone know if ford plans to move the port to the driver's side rear?

thanks
I would pay extra to have my charge port in the back even if there wasn’t a Tesla constraint

ok so sounds like the charging port is not a reason to delay purchase. thanks.
Besides, if you had a J3400 port on your car, you would just need an adapter to use it on CCS chargers when you use those.

I hope the port isn't changed. I back my MME into the garage, with the passenger side against the wall. I have my L2 charger mounted at the front of the garage, so I can run it in front of the MME when backed in. If i get a 2026 or 2027 MME, then I'd have to get the charger moved. That's a long way off, but another cost to factor in.

On a Thanksgiving trip this year I saw virtually every EA station full with a waiting line. The few Tesla stations I used only had a couple cars at an 8 station location.

It would be great if like Audi and I think Porsche if the charge port can be specced on both sides. That’s probably overkill for Ford to do that, and also only applies to L2 charging on those cars I believe, but perhaps on future designs if people could choose the location of the port on left or right side, that would be great. For me, front left is perfect based on where my charger is.

I was travelling last week, and only ran into one full charge site (a 4-stall EA with the 150 KW stall hosting the CHAdeMO down). I used the Tesla site across the lot. I did need to block two posts, but there was plenty of room. I think I blocked two posts at an empty site later in the trip. Most of the time, you can angle in, or take the spot to the right of the rightmost post.

I suspect the longer cables are coming with V4 dispensers replacing the existing V3 dispensers. Longer cables on the old posts could cause other problems.

I would be shocked if there is a my26 that isn't a gen2, and agree it might be worth waiting for, even if i haven't had a hassle yet myself
Ford has already stated that Gen2 MMEs will go into production “late 2026,” which should make them 2027 models. ?‍♂?

I do the same. I just wish I could back in at all level 3 charging stations. I would happily move my garage charger location for my next car if I could get the charge port in the back

A random thought… what if you can have an extension cord that makes it easier to reach the charger?

this is not possible due to the current and voltage involved. i think all these DCFC cables have active cooling. a short stub like an adapter is OK but any extension cord would be prohibitively heavy and expensive, and possibly just a non-starter.

Makes sense.

Tesla's quarterly report said they have modified 1500 stations (not stalls) to remove this problem. Speculation is they are removing bollards and curbs wherever possible, as they now have not just ford and rivian but chevy and Hyundai users to contend with. Whether they can or will retrofit with longer cables is something i haven't seen believable truth on. Since it came up in the earnings report they seem to be taking it seriously
The cable length problem is short term and will lessen relatively quickly as more stations get built.

Tesla’s latest Supercharger team leader said that they’re deploying new dispensers at a rate where they anticipate longer cables will outnumber short cables in 18 months. What’s not clear to me is if he’s referring to globally or just in North America.

All depends on your location. I’ve seen plenty of full Tesla stations. And often even a 8 stall location having 1 car every other stall….making it impossible for a a Mach E to charge.
