Thanks!

I'd like to see the result for that "Lightning phone" to add an MME vehicle to the same app/same phone and then make an assessment.
I have both a Mach-E and a Lightning. PAAK works fine on the Lightning. We have to carry a FOB or use the backup code on the Mach-E. The wife and I both have S23 Ultra.

However this isn't universal as other Lightning owners are having the issue. Which makes it all the weirder I guess

Interesting. I haven't seen any complaints on the Lightning site.

If phone still works for lightning then it has to be Mach-E software problem and not Samsung.

So let's say you own a Tesla, a Lightning, and Kia. And all 3 support PAAK.

Samsung sends an update to your phone and PAAK breaks on your Tesla, but still works on your Lightning and Kia.

It's Tesla that should have prevented the issue?

I wouldn't say something they should have prevented but it is something about their car that makes it not compatible.

Just like new version of windows will not work on old computers. Because the old computers hardware. New version more secure Bluetooth comes out but if your old device does have the hardware for newer version of Bluetooth not the new version of Bluetooth to fault. They don't want to use the old version because of security reason. You will have to update your hardware or newer firmware that works with the new version of Bluetooth.

I'm wondering if it works for people on the one UI 7.0 beta.

Absolutely, it is up to the company using the devices to stay ahead of changes. Just like browsers, they update all the time and we use them to deliver our content so it is on us to know what is coming, and more importantly, respond quickly when something gets through.

Security specific updates aren't necessarily released ahead of time though. Sometimes if a company is nice enough due to the size of their customer and with certain ageeements, a little bit of info related about it is released in a confidential matter as a courtesy heads up, but there isn't a way to test that update until it's actually released as an effort to fight exploitation. Microsoft does this, as an example.

Feature updates like what you're thinking of should follow the process you mentioned. Although it's not a perfect world and depending on time, capacity, and priorities, a company may not follow that anyway, whether they have the capacity or not ?.

Samsung Z Flip 6, just received December security patch and PaaK is now broken (which I expected would happen).

I use a dedicated Sim-less Samsung Galaxy for monitoring PIDs and streaming music/media in both the Mach-E and the F150.

The main reason is so that I don't have to meddle with my primary phone while driving. And by never actually touching or using it, I get a higher score on my insurance discount. (Texas Farm Bureau. Some app that tattles on me if I'm using the phone while the vehicle is moving. Voluntary program)

I don't know why I didn't think about it before today, but since it is not a halo Galaxy, it runs on One UI 5.2/Android 13, and is not affected by the Samsung security update that crippled PAAK.

Installed FordPass, and sure enough PAAK setup went through like a breeze. Of course I usually leave this phone in the car/truck unless I'm changing vehicles. But for now I'll drop it into the backpack or my other back pocket until either Ford or Samsung addresses the issue.

If PaaK works on lightning even after the security patch, is it software or is it the hardware in the Mach E? I'd kinda think the Ford PaaK software is basically the same, but the transmitters might be different. And if it is a hardware problem, I'd imagine there isn't really a fix for it.

I'm still looking for a definitive answer to:
A single phone, with the Samsung Security patch applied, with one instance of FordPass, and that has both a Lightning and an MME defined in it either has success with PaaK on neither or only with the Lightning. I have a hard time believing that hardware has anything to do with this, IMHO.

I wonder if it's related but the fordpass app on my Galaxy Watch 6 crashes instantly now when I try to open it. Had worked properly since release until about the time I got the december security update on my phone.
