So, people, in short, is this Octopus gimmick worth the arse!

Am on Octopus since Shell put me there. Should I dip my toe in the IO pool?

When I plug car in the evening intending to charge from zero to 100% ready to go out to work in the morning, am I guaranteed the charge?

Is IO temperamental such that you never know when/if you’re going to get your charge?

It’s just mapped the charging slots, approx 2 hours after plugging in, usually maps the slots within 10 minutes of plugging in. I now have it charging from 2000 right through to 0430 meaning all my household electric use is at 7p kWh from 2000 - 0530 tomorrow

It’s never failed to charge the car but I only charge once a week generally from 40% to 85%. It’s deleted my car twice from the app which meant if i hadnt read my emails(octopus sent one saying they couldn’t connect to my car) and plugged in i would just be charging as standard rates. Unfortunately you will need to try it to see if it works for you

What you could do though is go through the setup process in the app to onboard your car to IO then within the IO app turn off smart charging and just use the 2330-0530 cheap rate 7p via scheduling on the Mach E or your charger.

Octopus have got in touch saying I need to reactivate the smart charging element.

has anyone had any issues with FordPass being locked out recently?

Everyone had to do it.
There seems to have been an update in the way Octopus logs into the Ford account, when you log in now there is a part where Ford asks for your permission to allow Octopus to access your account. I'd imagine they've done this to stop the cars from being blocked. Hopefully this resolves that once and for all.

Has anyone successfully managed to set the Mach e to precondition via Ford pass and it to override octopus IO controls?

my set up is this
Octopus IO controls the Mach e (my charger isn’t compatible with IO so that’s how it has to link up)
On the Octopus App I have a ready by 0400am and just for tomorrow 100%.

I intend leaving at 0515am so have set the departure time on the FordPass app for 0500am. Last time I tried this it didn’t start to precondition, which suggests the octopus app and control had overridden FordPass, which according to octopus shouldn’t be the case.

anyone ever got a precondition departure time via setting it on the FordPass app to work with IO?

Yes - however it's not quite as simple as it should be.

Once Intelligent Go has activated, it never checks again, so you get the 11:30pm-5:30am 7p rate. So once they 'linked' and approved. I changed my FordPass password and then its app controls the car again.

If you change your fordpass password octopus IO can’t control the mach e meaning next time you plug in it’s not going to work unless you go through the setup process again, seems a lot of hassle just to precondition? Or am I missing something?

It seems that you need to set precondition departure time AFTER you plug in and after octopus IO has scheduled the charging slots. Did it before and when IO scheduled charging slots it deleted my preconditioning departure time on the fordpass app. I’ve re entered a preconditioning departure time on the fordpass app after IO and it’s still showing in the fordpass app. I’m thinking though if IO changes the charging slots it will probably wipe the fordpass preconditioning time

It depends if you need the additional random slots it creates.

I’m on intelligent octopus go - which gives me 7p charging between 11:30pm and 5:30am.

I use the FordPass app to set my charging times manually and departure times.

Octopus doesn’t control my car or it’s charging at all anymore. The only downside is you lose the ā€œadditionalā€ charges that sometimes get offered however I was never home for them.

They occasionally email asking me to re link it but I don’t.

I see.

you know you can just disable smart charging in the IO app so that it doesn’t control the car BUT means should you want the extra slots intelligently you can just enable it.

Good evening,

I collected my 2024 MME Premium today after having solar and batteries installed yesterday.

I had a Zappi charger fitted and have the app installed, I have also signed up to intelligent Octopus and now have Ford Pass.

Do you have any advice on the best approach to charging between 23:30 and 5:30 each night? Octopus has also completed the attached schedule. Does this mean these are at the cheap rate of £0.07 a kWh. I done a test charge which took power from the batteries and both the Zappi app and Ford Pass showed that it was charging.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I set mine to charge between 23:30 and 5:30 and to 85%.

I then changed my FordPass password and now octopus doesn’t interfere. It doesn’t cancel the tariff either.

However you do miss out on the bonus charges like you’ve got listed.

If you have a battery - you shouldn’t take from that, use that to avoid using home energy during the day at 26p. Let the 7p energy fill your battery and car battery.

Leave some room for the solar to fill the battery too.

Thanks for the advice. I will look at the inverter settings today to work out how to bypass taking electricity from the batteries.

I managed to charge to 80% last night but to be honest I’m not sure what is dictating the charge. FordPass had no timed schedule associated with it but was set at 80%. Octopus was set as per the image above and my Zappi charger was set as follows with a schedule between 23:30 and 5:30.

I’d like to think they are talking to each other but reading the history on this thread it’s probably unlikely!

Golly! Is it this long since I read posts here, how time flies!

ATM I don’t have time & patience for any hit and miss.

When I plan to go out to work at stupid o clock in a morning I have to know that car will be 100%.

When I retire in August and pressure’s off I may try this or whatever’s around then but until then Stangy works for a living and I don’t have the time for a sick-note pony when I wake up to go to work ?
